Fix my gun Tips on cleaning small surface rust dots?

Just picked up a NRA commemorative winchester from an auction and I noticed the reciever has small little rust dots all over it. Is

this possible to clean up?

Rem-oil and 0000 steel wool works on most blued parts. Just don’t scrub too hard.

You would probably have to refinish the gun after the rust removal

Yeah the rust will be gone but the scars will still be there. It’s usually ok on a milsurp but a nice shiny finish like that will stick out a lot

It's a small point of order but my suggestion is copper or brass brush, scrubbie or fine wool and the reason is that steel can scratch steel and steel bluing; copper and brass are softer, they will remove rust but preserve bluing and can't scratch steel. The other reason is that steel wool can leave tiny splinters that promote rust later

I know using wd40 on guns is considered bad, but I've had good luck removing small rust spots on my trucks chrome bumper with WD40, just thorough scrubbing with a microfiber cloth and some WD40 got off small rust speckles on my bumper, so it might be worth trying on this as it will be the least abrasive and lowest risk of damaging the finish, just make sure you don't get it in the action as I've heard it can gum them up
