Buy recommendations Looking to buy a .306

I’m looking to buy my first 30-06 but I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the options. I’m looking for something under 1K but don’t know where to go from there. Any advice on brands/what I should avoid? (Edited because I am newer to this and put .306 instead of 30-06)

Secondhand, absolutely. Rangeview has some t3x lites for $900.

We do, but it’s pretty tough to find one for >$1000…

Rangeview has a couple secondhand T3x lites for $900. They actually look decent too. I might need another. 😳

Oh no way. I’m leery of buying second hand rifles online. I feel like it’s something I’d really like to look over.

That's fair. My experience with secondhand online has been great so far. I've actually got some real nice pieces from retailers at much better prices than I would have got buying private. I bought a Remington 1100 for parts, but it ended up being an absolutely gorgeous shotgun for only $350. Retailers can't afford to ruin their reputation by lessing junk.

I can definitely understand the hesitation though.

I suppose if i were doing it through a store i’d feel much more comfortable about it knowing that likely someone competent has looked it over and asked questions. I’ve bought a few milsurps from private sales but really, for the most part you can tell from photos what’s good and what’s junk. My main goal with my milsurps was more just owning a piece of history, the accuracy and function was secondary. With a precision bolt action, my goal is likely long range, so i’d want to see the bore and crown pretty closely. I’d want to look at the bolt and check for play. I think it’s really a matter of my willingness to pay a little more for some level of guarantee that I’m not going to get something with a bore that some guy hasn’t destroyed with a jag somehow. But if someone is just looking to shoot a moose inside 200 yds, i guess there really isn’t much that could get a group bigger than 6” at that range on a bolt action, that couldn’t be fixed by someone who isn’t a gunsmith(I’m thinking loose action screws here).
