Fix my gun Marlin 1895 Trapper 45-70 Gov Trigger and Lever Help

2 videos in one.

First part: I’m wondering if this is normal trigger behaviour. Not shown in the video, it is very loose and can be pushed forward easily. Seems to operate normally when it comes to firing rounds.

Second part: The lever seems to bind when the lever is “pushed” to one side. As seen in the video, at first my fingers are pushing the lever away from me and trying to cycle it and it binds. When the lever is pulled toward me it’s smooth as butter. Is there a fix for this other than don’t push the lever to the side that binds?

Edit: Solved thanks for all help! Fix is just shoot more.

On lot of the older lever actions (think Winchester 1894 and many other models) that was the safety. Hammer half cocked, as you have seen it would prevent the trigger to be accidentally depressed. Newer lever actions now also include a cross bolt safety. As far as the lever binding, try to run the action more vigorously and you will be ok.

Marlins are built with tight tolerances for accuracy. The actions really needs to be worked in. My 45-70 was very stiff to open until I put new oil on it and ran the action many times. It will break in over time.

Just go out and shoot it.  If the action is fine when actually shooting it your okay, and lever actions are meant to be ran hard.  It will also break in after shooting it or just racking the action alot.

Is it hanging up a bit on the ejector? I know my R95 (same action, 336 based), was binding ever so slightly on the ejector around that same place in the motion of the bolt. I polished the ejector a bit and it seemed to smooth out the movement of the bolt a little bit. Just an idea as the action seems to be binding up slightly right around the point of where the bolt passes over the extractor which is inside the receiver and just sort of floating in the wall of the receiver, held in place by pressure from the bolt, so the bolt has to go past the ejector while moving forwards or backwards. Might be worth making sure it's seated in there properly and maybe give it a light polishing.
