Alberta and BC, you disappoint me.

Being from BC, I am disappointed as well.

Look at Ontario...

Mind you we have the a high population so kind of makes sense.

I'm amazed Quebec is so low

Wasn't this supposedly for Quebec votes specifically? Per-capita that theory doesn't seem to be panning out

22

u/stereo_cabbage Apr 06 '26

Your theory is wrong, the idea came from Quebec (Nathalie provost) but we all agree she’s unhinged. There’s a shit ton of hunters amd gun owners in Quebec and most of the population is anti gun grab

u/gspotcowboy Apr 06 '26

The Liberals didn't want the Bloc to split their votes and cost them forming government. Since the bloc uses gun control as a cudgel in their platform (they basically want to ban everything) Trudeau doubled down on it as well

u/NL1839 Apr 06 '26

Thanks for pointing that out. I don’t pay too close attention to the bloc. That makes a lot more sense now. It’s another example of how the Liberals couldn’t care less about the west. It’s all games to get power and don’t care about anyone that can’t help them. It’s pretty disgusting actually

1

u/LongRoadNorth Apr 06 '26

They just don't care about Alberta and Saskatchewan cause they know no matter what they won't get a vote from them.

This whole East vs West shit needs to stop. This country shouldn't be so divided by east vs west or left vs right.

It should be 1% and elites vs everyone else, and we eat the rich.

1

u/LongRoadNorth Apr 06 '26

In what way was I wrong? I didn't say Quebec as a whole but a few ridings around Montreal that are like provost very anti gun.

If I said Quebec as a whole I would agree with you I was wrong.

2

u/stereo_cabbage Apr 06 '26

I did not meant to upset you, the anti gun ridings are a fringe minority is what i meant!

3

u/LongRoadNorth Apr 06 '26

Wasn't upset just clarifying. All good brother.

I agree it's the same with Toronto, everyone just says Toronto but realistically besides maybe some of the downtown core, there's very few ridings that support it.

19

u/LongRoadNorth Apr 06 '26

Literally just a few ridings around Montreal

9

u/SecureNarwhal Apr 06 '26

the people who voted for the gun ban aren't the ones with guns to turn in

2

u/xpingux Apr 06 '26

You're completely inverting what Gary said.

A popular policy means it won't negatively affect Quebecers.

u/Whispersfine Apr 06 '26

Ontario is actually low on per capita. BC is really a shit show tho, they have a little over 5 million people yet they gave away more than half of what Ontario gave up.

No wonder they voted the NDP government again and again…..

In their defense, perhaps the tragedy in north BC somehow shifted their minds.

Ya but the number is telling a different story. Vancouver urban areas are not very gun friendly let’s just say that. Everybody is wearing lululemon and Arc’teryx. Giving free drugs to homeless whatnot….

I don't know man, I was at one of the gun store in Vancouver and one of the customer was Asian female in her 20s getting her transferred pistol back in 2022.

Many gun stores were quite packed prior to Dec 2024.

I would assume the actual numbers of NR prohibited in BC and Alberta are way higher.

4

u/Whispersfine Apr 06 '26

We don’t have the data so can’t really tell. I agree that they may have more NR rifle but BC and ON are both highly urbanized. The fact BC gave away a lot more than half of what ON gave with only one third of ON population. That ratio tells you BC is much more cooperative than ON. Even by gun per PAL holder, BC gun owners surrender way more firearms.

3

u/GinnAdvent Apr 06 '26

While that might be true, it probably has to do with number of disposal income for those 2 provinces.

If you have a collection and some have restricted, people might want to get rid of it so the Fed don't come for their licenses after Oct and still holding on their NR. While it might not look good for BC, but the total number is still less than what we anticipated.

I doubt the government will publish a number of NR vs R they collected, because that will have a better context here.

I have 4 restricted that worth 10k alone, and I choose not to do anything with it. That kind of money is not someone can easily give up since that easy 3 months of rent and groceries in BC.

u/bosco781 bc Apr 06 '26

Yeah I have one on the list and I'll be taking a zipcut to it instead of handing it in. Some of my coworkers did register wanting some money to put towards other guns etc but I doubt they will see a dime if it ever gets to the day they hand them over.

3

u/LongRoadNorth Apr 06 '26

In all fairness the only reason I'd surrender my one NR that's now prohibited is because of the money I have in other firearms that would suck to lose if my license was revoked etc.

My one PCC is a drop in the bucket in value compared to two of my shotguns alone.

0

u/Whispersfine Apr 06 '26

Hey man, I don’t think BC owes anyone an apology. It’s wrong to banned lawfully owned firearms but you can’t blame people for reducing the financial damage infected by the government itself.

I agree with you. Not all of us are fortunate enough to afford sitting on thousands of dollars worth of paper weights.

3

u/LongRoadNorth Apr 06 '26

Isn't Lockhart, crusader and black Creek labs all based in BC as well?

2

u/GinnAdvent Apr 06 '26

I am not sure that's where they are based, the stores could be in BC, but manufacturing could be in another province or country.

My previous comment just means that while Vancouver appears to be somewhat anti gun, but the actual number of PAL holders and the number of guns they own is quite significant compare to other provinces.

So it's somewhat plausible that you might have see a higher number of declarations from BC and AB. However, I am sure there are crap load of NR prohibited as well that people aren't declaring.

4

u/LongRoadNorth Apr 06 '26

NDP aren't really huge supporters of it. Hell even a lot of liberals aren't. This hate towards the left for wanting it really needs to stop when it's been said even by the liberals this was just to keep a few ridings by Montreal happy.

Besides the fact far left are strong supporters of firearm rights.

I'm counted in that number. Before you jump all over me for it, my employment and security clearance depend on me rigorously following the law.

That said, after seeing the compensation get axed and learning that I could just take a chop saw to my AR-15s, I have 6 total, I've already withdrawn my application and I'll let the CFO in my province know they've been destroyed post Oct 2026 amnesty conclusion.

Or hopefully the SCC tosses some wrenches, or the govt is forced to extend the amnesty again.

2

u/LongRoadNorth Apr 06 '26

Same boat but mines NR.

I'll cut it in pieces and let the CFO know before I risk my license being revoked and losing all my other guns worth way more, and possible not be able to maintain security clearance for work.

1

u/TarkovSundays Apr 07 '26

why r u fellas even putting this out there u guys are fedsssss forsure… “I’ll cut it in pieces and let the CFO know” cripes mate like do whatever u want to do if your “job” depends on it but don’t be sitting on the cuck chair and sharing that for the world to see

16

u/falap Apr 06 '26

Agreed. BC, why are you participating in this program?

5

u/ecclectic Apr 07 '26

I'm going to guess a lot of folks who REALLY can't afford to end up on the wrong side of the law and risk deportation. Keep in mind, that number is a small percentage of the of the 340k+ gun owners and estimated 700k-1.3million firearms in the province.

-4

u/goodfleance Apr 06 '26

Not by choice I promise

7

u/throwie2k Apr 06 '26

credit where credits due, AB is about the same per capita to ON, a tad more than SK a lot less than BC

5

u/GinnAdvent Apr 06 '26

I mean if the restricted numbers were that high, imagine the number of NR prohibited in both provinces.

I am not surprised both provinces would have at least 200k plus of NR prohibited.

2

u/HankHippoppopalous Apr 07 '26

I assumed we had 7300 men who died in the past few years, and their wife finally turned in the guns :(

1

u/jjyss Apr 07 '26

It's a shame.

1

u/canadianhousecoat Apr 07 '26

It's peoples mom's and grandmothers getting rid other their husbands old guns lol

1

u/RodgerWolf311 Apr 07 '26

Looks like BC are the biggest bootlickers in all of Canada (for their population size)

1

u/peed_on_ur_poptart Apr 06 '26

Im from bc and im constantly disappointed by bc, the west coast is beyond saving now.

1

u/1800basicreply Apr 06 '26

Is this number mostly retailers? if so i don't blame them, i still use retailer inventory instead importing new parts from irg or aztech or arms east, gotta be hard on em, shout out to rdsc, just got some glock parts the other day

1

u/AntiNakedman Apr 07 '26

None of these numbers are retailers - totally separate program.
