No one forces anyone to pay that much. Don’t like what a private individual has asked for their property, don’t buy it from them.
Absolutely that seems like a ridiculous asking price, but again, no one is forcing anyone to actually pay it. Maybe the gun never sells. Maybe it does. If they’re easily had for much cheaper somewhere else, that’s on the would-be buyer to make wise choices.
Half the stuff on Gunpost is utterly delusional what they want for it. But they can still ask whatever they want. Heck I sometimes wonder if half the guns on there are posted by guys who told their wives they’d sell some guns so they can say “yeah babe ive had the ad up for a while now but no takers so far…oh well….” 🤣

Its just so chudpilled. Doing shit like this is only going to raise the average price. This shit doesn't need to explode in price like it has recently, sellers have just chosen to make it happen. They could remain affordable for everyone.

I once bought a Tula milled SKS in 2008 in Idaho from a private seller. He charged me $200 US and threw in 500 rounds Soviet milsurp

Yeah I always dislike it when people do this. Either they are wasting everyone’s time or they don’t understand why something is being priced higher. Couldn’t tell you how many “I’ll give you $200” messages I’ve gotten selling SKSs

Semi-auto rifle that shoots ANY kind of 7.62 with no issues and is incredibly reliable. What are you on about overrated?

I know i'll probably get downvoted but I've owned 3 sks and they can be fun for plinking and what not so I should've worded that a little differently tbh.
In my opinion, as a $400 - $500 gun, sure its decently fun but anything close to or above $1000 there are better options

100% agree. It has amazing accessibility and durability but the prices are out of hand.... It's like people are selling a Volkswagen Beetle for the price of a Porsche and expecting you to be happy about it

I loved how simple they were and how easy jt was to field strip and take care of but yes prices are definitely out of hand.
I was lucky enough to snatch a French Tickler for $450 a year and a half ago, but I sold it a few weeks back to fund a precision bolt action. I gave it to the guy for $600. Fair profit for myself, and the guy who bought it was super grateful to get one around $250 lower that current retail.

Yeah that's a perfect win-win. These guns are great at the 250-450$ price range as entry level guns, but the closer we get to 1000$ per gun, plus the difficulty to find ammo these days, I feel like there's better guns for the money. It's no longer an "entry level gun" in my eyes

Name me an $1000 gun in Canada pre ban that was as good as an SKS? Also, 7.62 non corrosive is available for .61 a round. Still lower than any other rifle caliber.
I'm not saying I'd buy an SKS for 1k but in Canada there clearly isn't (or wasn't) a better rifle for under $1000

The only reason that people are listing them for $800 plus is because of fear mongering and supply and demand. Still, it's the best option for a semi-auto in Canada at this point.

It's definitely overrated at it's current price with what the platform offers:
- fixed magazine
- poor optic mounting options
- ugly aftermarket stocks
- no threaded barrel
- violent casing ejection
- 3-5moa
The only thing it has going for it is reliability and usability. If tomorrow we got t81s and other semis unbanned the SKS market would crater.

I'd even argue for the price the Alcor or an older used BAR is a better deal for anything over than plinking and fun. There is guys reporting 1-1.5moa from the Alcor (allegedly). Plus the price of even red box 7.62x39 is now about even with decent brass cased bulk ammo. I get good accuracy out of PMC Bronze/Xtac and usually buy it for 0.55-0.60 in bulk. Since surplus corrosive dried up, SKS costs as much to shoot now as a 223 semi or 223 bolt gun. I'd rather shoot brass 223 vs steel 7.62.
I love the SKS, just cause I'm Canadian and own guns and am obliged to, but if the market opened back up, we would see SKS back at $300-400 very quickly. I am still glad I scooped one up last year for $500, but it mostly just sits at home, and I hang onto it as part of my patriotic duty of owning one.
