Gun and gear reviews Shotgun Slug selection
Looking for some cheap ish shotgun slugs for range practice so nothing like federal but also don’t want it to severely gunk up the inside of my gun like I hear with some cheaper options.
Anyone know of some good ones that fit the description?

Score is the cheapest in my neck of the woods and they always go bang. 00 buck from them slaps good too.

Score is the only affordable option right now at roughly 88 cpr if you buy the 225 bulk pack other then that you can find the challenger ones somtimes for a bit more roughly 1.00 to 1.25$ per round. As far as cleanliness in your gun, this is Canada we don't get to be that picky unless you intend on reloading your own shotshells and even then your still very limited on loadings due to the lack of shotshell primers and powders

A brief blast of gun cleaner and a quick pull or two of a shotgun bore snake usually leaves my barrel shiny clean inside.

Challenger, Score, and Mili. I shoot all three of these and they are good for the price.

These days I'll only ever buy Challenger shells. The overall length seems to be a bit shorter than other commercial brands so it always helps with ejection and never compromises extraction. This is especially handy in older guns that only have a 2-3/4" chamber that tend to hang up on other brands.
Their 2-3/4" magnum slugs are always a good time at the range. They make a hell of a bark without pounding too badly and seem pretty consistent across the shotguns I've used them in.

I will give Challenger a similar shout as someone with a bunch of 2 3/4" chambers, they are pretty consistent and don't shove a beach blanket's worth of crimp down into the shell which is nice.

You need to try a few to see how they group with your gun. Score and Challenger are decent made in Canada economical options. The nice thing about a shotgun is they are usually pretty straightforward to clean if needed.
