2/3ish try 4/5ish. Crazy how much political power we give to 21%–22% of the population for 0 reason other then they speak French as a first language.

It doesn’t say that, troll.
First, it’s from Poly. Not the government.
It says they only got half the participation they wanted but Canadians should look at it as a glass half full situation rather than glass half empty.
It says they desperately want the SKS banned.

First, it’s from Poly. Not the government.
Let's be clear here, public safety copy pastes what Poly give them. Poly is just a safe layer of separation

Sure, up until recently. However, Im not sure Nathalie will be so trusted by the Carney regime given the current optics of her plan. She may want to die on this hill but Carney won’t. We are forcing them into creating 1 million criminals overnight and they will not do it.

Sure, up until recently. However, Im not sure Nathalie will be so trusted by the Carney regime given the current optics of her plan
That's where you're wrong. The plan has looked stupid the entire way through, it still lets them maintain the wedge and buy votes and thats all they care about.
She may want to die on this hill but Carney won’t.
Are you sure? Carney has doubled down every time on this. He's been working closely with the Liberals since 2020 and Mendcino and Butts have obviously appraised him of the gongshow (Don't mistake malice and stupidity, they're unfortunately VERY clever people). He knows the value of the program to him, there's no benefit of the doubt here where Carney would dump her or the program. He brought her on and gave her a title...
We are forcing them into creating 1 million criminals overnight and they will not do it.
That's where they keep extending the amnesty to maintain the illusion of public safety and keep the wedge alive. Or they force grandfathering on all us (without use). It'd be the perfect way to build a new registry after all of this.
This mess has been a liberal cornerstone for 25+ years. It's death by a thousand cuts because by all regards, firearms ownership SHOULD NOT BE A POLITICAL ISSUE.

Carney is a banker. He isn’t going to die on this hill. Nathalie will never make it beyond her nature title. We will all be grandfathered and they will take them one at a time from our children when we die.
They were expecting us to roll over.

Carney is a GLOBALIST banker. Thats a massive difference. Its quite literally his agenda to take away guns from people higher up than him. Shes just a useful idiot to him and his masters. A useful idiot that when the mission is accomplished, will either be thrown to the side soviet style, or given a nice little cottage in the mountainside with a watchful eye to ensure she doesnt fuck with any future plans.

Yeah I remember reading their older pieces, which called scoped hunting rifles and PRS rifles "military grade sniper weapons".

Agreed. As much as I dislike the Libs, I get the sense that they are done with Poly's neverending shit and being held hostage by Provost.

The line that mentions the SKS says this: "government must now focus on ending SKS sales to ensure Canada has a true ban on assault-style weapons"
So they aren't declaring it will be banned, it's poly pushing for the same thing they have been forever now.
I don't know how to post pictures in comments but the English version is on polys X page of anyone wants to read the whole thing.

Translation:
PolySeSouvient reacts to the end of the buyback program registration period, as half of the estimated number of affected firearms have been declared
"The government must now focus its efforts on ending the sale of SKS models so that Canada has a true ban on assault weapons."
Montreal, April 1, 2026 – Today, at the close of the registration period for the assault weapons buyback program, the federal government announced that nearly 38,000 firearm owners across Canada have declared more than 67,000 prohibited firearms. This represents approximately half of the 136,000 firearms affected, according to government estimates. Here is PolySeSouvient's statement in response to this announcement:
While the government has allocated $248.6 million to compensate owners of approximately 135,000 prohibited assault-style firearms, it is disappointing—though far from catastrophic—that only half of these have been registered.
One could even say the glass is half empty and half full. Despite widespread misinformation and daily calls from the gun lobby not to participate, approximately half of the eligible firearms have been registered by their owners. One could infer that roughly half of the owners of prohibited firearms ignored the calls from pro-gun groups. These are the ones who will receive financial compensation, unlike the other half.
It is crucial to understand that not participating in this program does not exempt individuals from the obligation to comply with the law. All owners of prohibited weapons must ensure that their firearms are surrendered to the authorities or rendered inoperable by the end of October, the date on which the amnesty currently protecting them from criminal liability and the loss of their firearms license will expire.
Indeed, the number of participants in the buyback program does not change the fact that, as of October 31, 2026, possession of any of the 2,500 prohibited assault-type weapons will constitute a crime. As Minister Gary Anandasangaree has repeatedly stated, participation in the program is voluntary, but compliance with the law is not. He also emphasized that law enforcement "must uphold the law."
According to public opinion polls, most Canadians support a ban on assault weapons. However, more than 19,000 models of firearms remain legal and available in Canada for hunting and sport shooting.
SKS sales must be stopped immediately.
With more than 2,500 models of assault-type weapons banned since 2020, Canada has taken a major step forward in public safety. However, to ensure a complete and effective ban, the federal government must urgently stop the sale of the SKS assault rifle, a particularly lethal weapon. We cannot allow taxpayers to fund a buyback program that allows owners to immediately replace surrendered weapons with equally dangerous ones. In December 2025, the Minister of Public Safety announced a comprehensive review of the firearms classification system, including specific consultations on the SKS rifle. SKS. This announcement follows previous consultations conducted both before and after the adoption of Bill C-21 (gun control). PolySeSouvient strongly opposes this procedural-driven delaying tactic that postpones any decision regarding the SKS for months, if not years. While constructive consultations, including with Indigenous communities that use SKSs for hunting, are relevant, this is not the case with regard to new purchases of SKS models. Given the repeated involvement of the SKS in tragic shootings, the government should immediately halt new sales while conducting consultations on the long-term details concerning the weapons currently in circulation. Indeed, over a year ago, the government received the report from the "Expert Advisory Committee on Firearms" which concluded that the SKS is capable of causing "significant harm to the public and law enforcement."

jokes on them. I replaced my GSG16 with a TM22. I think i actually won here. The TM is a better firearm.

This represents about half of the estimated 136,000 affected firearms. The following is PolySeSouvient’s statement in response: “While the government set aside $248.6 million to compensate gun owners for approximately 135,000 prohibited assault-style weapons, it is disappointing - though far from catastrophic - that only half of this number have been declared.

They want to prohibit the sale of new SKS since people selling their prohibited firearms turn around and buy SKS. They say that the current consultations on SKS use are kind of filibuster tactic to push any decision 1-2 years in the future. They quote the consultative committee on firearms concluded that the SKS could cause severe damage to LE and civilians and the use of SKS in various shootings across the country.

u/Trash-Eater-69 Apr 02 '26
It is not official. Poly has been demanding the SKS be banned for years.
This is them trying to spin the abysmally low participation rate as a "win," and to frame it as an opportunity to expand the scope of an already unfeasible and unpopular policy, that seems primed to enter its terminal phase.
This is not new marching orders from the government, nor is it a victory lap on Poly's part; its 100% pure cope.

The Short, Short Version:
There was only half of the expected volume of firearms surrendered as part of buyback program. Owning any of the now prohibited 2500 models will be considered a crime after October. You still have lots of models of legal guns, blah, blah, blah.
They want to prohibit the sale of the SKS. They claim it is an assault-style weapon and should not be sold.
So they admit there's no chance to even try and get any of the millions that are already in people's hands, but they don't want any new ones going out. They also claimed that the SKS has been used in shootings, so that is reason enough to ban it and they're mad at the government for taking so long.

Haven't they been making this clear for quite a while? Gary literally said they are looking at the SKS next.

(AI Summarized):
On April 1, 2026, PolyRemembers (PolySeSouvient) issued a response to the closure of the federal government's assault weapon buyback registration period. The organization characterized the results as a "glass half-full" situation, noting that while many owners participated, a significant number of prohibited weapons remain undeclared.
Buyback Program Statistics
- Total Firearms Declared: More than 67,000 firearms were registered.
- Participation: Approximately 38,000 firearm owners participated across Canada.
- Success Rate: The declared amount represents about half of the estimated 136,000 affected firearms.
- Funding: The federal government had set aside $248.6 million to compensate owners for approximately 135,000 prohibited weapons.
Legal Compliance and Deadlines
PolyRemembers emphasized that while participation in the compensation program was optional, adhering to the law is not.
- Amnesty Expiration: The current amnesty protecting owners from criminal liability and license revocation ends at the end of October 2026.
- Criminal Liability: As of October 31, 2026, possession of any of the 2,500 prohibited assault-style weapon models will be a crime.
- Requirement: Owners must ensure their prohibited firearms are disposed of or rendered inoperable before the amnesty expires.
- Legal Alternatives: The group noted that over 19,000 types of firearms remain legal for hunting and sport shooting in Canada.
Urgent Call to Ban SKS Rifles
A primary focus of the statement is the demand for the federal government to immediately halt the sale of SKS rifles.
- Replacement Concerns: The organization argues that taxpayers should not fund a buyback program if owners can immediately replace surrendered weapons with "equally dangerous" SKS rifles.
- Opposition to Delays: PolyRemembers strongly objects to the government’s December 2025 announcement of further consultations and reviews, calling it a "delaying tactic" that punts necessary decisions months or years into the future.
- Public Safety Risk: The group highlighted a report from the Expert Advisory Panel on Firearms which found the SKS capable of inflicting "substantial harm" to the public and law enforcement.
- Proposed Action: They suggest the government should end new sales immediately while continuing to consult on the long-term details for SKS rifles already in circulation.

Its official guys, Poly can suck on a bag of gophers and chew on some pop cans.

u/Hot_Cheesecake_905 Apr 05 '26
"Given its repeated involvement in tragic shootings", how many SKS shootings have their been?
But it is nice to see PolySeSouvient is disappointed in the buyback program. They must be really peeved if they put that into the press release.
