Gun and gear reviews What's your biggest, "what was I thinking?"

Post image

mine has to be the Hunt Group MH12. double barreled pump sounds fun on paper, but it's just so heavy. with the fixes stocked it weights 16.1 lbs. it's just so big.

Same...

As much as it sucked carrying that thing around, it was still cool

It takes up a lot of safe space too

I work in a firearms store and honestly this is the most unwieldy shotgun I've ever held. Its overly long and heavy for absolutely no benefit. At least the ksg version (the original) was bull pup which helped with the manual of arms.

My knees hurt reading this.

Thanks for doing that. How does one get "volun-selected" to be the SMG guy anyway?

the thing that confuses me most about that gun is why they don't let you shoot both barrels at once. it's already wildly impractical so why wouldn't they lean into it?

According to the criminal code Criminal Code R.S.C., 1985, c. C-46, s 84 (1)

automatic firearm means a firearm that is capable of, or assembled or designed and manufactured with the capability of, discharging projectiles in rapid succession during one pressure of the trigger;

So firing both barrels with a single squeeze of the trigger would classify it as an automatic (I assume like 2-round burst)?

So maybe if it is controlled by 2 separate triggers for each barrel then it is fine?

This is a ridiculous take of someone who just got here. There are double barrel shotguns that shoot two rounds per trigger pull. All this can be attributed to is just odd design choices. After all this is a pump shotgun and therefore the action is not automatic in any respect.

I've never seen this shotgun you described. Is it sold in Canada?

And mechanically yes, since there's no auto sear then it's not an automatic system, but by the letter of the law, it is classified as an automatic.

i'd imagine 2 separate triggers would also be simpler and easier to manufacture than however they handle it currently

as much as i shit on turkish shotguns they do capture a cooler aethetic than a lot of stuff we have made in the US

I'll be showcasing a few of my Turkish tacticool over the next little while.

...the alt-girl single mom at the bar during spooky season; oh wait, we mean firearms related

Not buying a Norinco 1911 or Ruger Wrangler when they were like $300 because i 'couldn't afford it right now'.

I have a lot of those 😞 I was broke for a while when I first got my license, and now that I have the money to buy things, they're either banned, or prices have shot way up that their back to being unaffordable.

Whatever gave you the idea it had to be firearms related? This is the feet place and your story was promising...

On the "not buying pistol" theme, the twofer Type 54 and the medium rare Glock 22P stand out.

For me it was a Charles daly benelli m4 clone. I fell for the whole "its a poor man's M4, its just a range toy" appeal. I knew i definitely was not gonna get benelli quality, or even a quality firearm for that matter, but my god the thing is hot ass.

That's where the dp12 has this beat by a mile. Well balanced weight being a bullpup

4

u/Sad-Kitchen5576 Apr 01 '26

Never realized it's so heavy. I've considered picking one up for fun but I've got other "what was i thinking?"s

Currently have a 3rd sporterized Ross m10 on the way because hey this one had the whole midband and upper handguard

3

Her name was Gina, I think.

Honestly the Raven. I got the 9mm and the 5.56 kit. Between those two it was the most expensive firearm I own (I also own a Bren 2 and a Tavor x95). Despite this it is excessively front-heavy, PMAGs do not work (does not load next round and the mag often just falls out of the magwell for no reason), the side charging handle is way too small and the top charging handle is unusable with any sort of large optic on it, the stock feels like it came from Temu, and the whole gun just feels like it's going to shake itself apart every time you fire it. For the price point it's just not a good firearm.

I don't think

Buying an UTAS 15

Not buying more pistols

LOL mine is the MH12 as well. Super cool but oh my back im too old for it lol. Moved it to a younger guy and just got a CD 301 tactical instead for the range

Having an FAC 45 years ago and not leaning in on... everything. Busy with babies and mortgages and careers in an urban setting.

Eventually got rural, time and money and an RPAL last year after two OICs so what I have is what I have and what I can get is what I can get.

Even with shitty old vision and all, I still have 20/20 hindsight.

M10x. Worst gun ever made

2

u/Scary-Detail-3206 Apr 01 '26

I just ordered an SR-45 this morning. Not really sure why but it’s kinda cool so it will probably get banned eventually

3

u/thxxx1337 Apr 01 '26

Ngl I'm very tempted myself. I haven't bought a gun in like 4 years. I guess I'm just holding out hope that the fun stuff will come back

3

u/Scary-Detail-3206 Apr 01 '26

I had always kinda been looking at the SR-410s and thinking they were kinda cool, but the fact that the SR-45s shoot 45 acp as well as 410, well I just couldn’t resist.

1

u/thxxx1337 Apr 01 '26

That's the selling point for me too. I already have 45 ACP. I absolutely don't have .410s lol

Mine was the SVT-40 I got back in 2019 when decent ones were running like $800-$1200 there was a seller on CGN one that was obviously bubba'd the fuck out for like $500. I bought it just so I could expand my soviet collection and thinking that maybe if it's already bubba'd I could do something stupid with it without feeling guilty about ruining a good one... There was so much more bubba than what you could see in the picture, top handguard was held on with 4 staples, the bottom handguard had been smashed and "fixed" with what looked like brown flex seal. They'd cut the barrel down, removing the front sight, and replaced it with a brass shotgun bead sight. The magazine spring was so blown out it only had enough tension to feed a single round if it had 5 rounds in it. It was also missing the bolt hold open mechanism. None of this was disclosed in the listing.

Some Turkish 12-gauge with a magazine. I don’t even know what it is. It’s at the back of the safe. Never fired.

Probably staying in this dumpster fire of a country, and realizing that it's not the hostile government to blame, but my so-called "fellow-countrymen" who have at best allowed it to happen, and at worse are fully complicit in it...
