Misc Does military surplus exist in canada?

I mean are there any milsurp stores that sell any firearma cause whenever i go to a city when i can i go and shop at a store that sells milsurp clothes and i shop there but they dont have any guns so are there any stores that still do that or is it no more? (Im young and dont know if it exists here never heard of it so relax)

It’s been decades since a surplus store in Canada would have had firearms.

Don't know what's in stock right now. They've always had SKS's and Mosins. Used to have a bunch of eastern European police handguns

That’s surprising. I’d have thought the regulatory burden would have killed it. Makes me wonder if Halifax is a unique market and what other rare business situations occur there.

My comment was a little too definitive - although I’d stand by the overall tone. It’s been a very long time since you could wander into a surplus store and not be surprised to see guns, and even longer since you’d be surprised not to.

Edit: some of the comments are showing I really need to get out of Toronto more.

Their ammo pricing is pretty competitive too. I wish they had better 22LR match selection but most of their per box pricing is within a dollar or two of online vendors. Whenever I stop in I buy a couple boxes of something

We keep our firearms for a very long time and the government doesn't like to sell them on the Canadian market. It's easier to buy foreign surplus rifles than Canadian ones in this country. The HPs which are being replaced by SIGs will not be sold to civilians; they will either go to museums or the Ukrainians.

I’ve been trying to conjure up the name of a specific place. In Toronto. It would have been the 70s, possibly very early 80s. They had a catalog that I recall was printed on standard letter sized paper, single fold. I somehow came across one down east. They had everything! Snowshoes, winter sleeping bags, and rifles. In particular, I remember a folding aircrew survival rifle, and lots of Lee Enfields.

Was it simply “Army & Navy”?

Anyway, that was also in the days you could find guns and ammo at Canadian Tire. And that was long enough ago that by the time I wandered into a Virginia Walmart circa 1993, I was shocked to see a bunch of of snub-nosed revolvers just sitting there in a glass case closer to the front doors than anything else.

The math suggests I’m getting old(er). :)

Most of the CAF's old firearms are destroyed rather than surplused, there was a bit of a news around that when the Rangers switched from their old Lee Enfields to the C19 (Tikka T3 CTR) a decade ago

Those firearms were beat to shit but people would have still paid something for them, at least for parts guns. Such a ridiculous waste of money and needless destruction

The Army and Navy store in Halifax has a legally distinct gun store within it. Cheapest ammo in town.

Military guns are found at Joe Salter, Great north guns, psmilitaria, forget about your local "surplus" store

Nope. Military surplus stores tend to have only military surplus (and new) clothing and equipment, they rarely (if ever) have firearms for sale as I imagine the logistics and permitting involved are extensive.

Firearms tend to be sold by local gun shops and stores like Cabela's or Bass Pro.

I remember once upon a time Heroes army surplus in the late 90s early 2000s had waxy cardboard box bins full of bren & sten gun magazines so choked with grease and cosmoline they didn't need to be pinned I actually picked up a bren magazine to take a closer look at it and I almost couldn't let go of it cuz it was so sticky my parents are not impressed when they saw my hand

I really enjoyed the in person shopping at Frontier Firearms when they ran a store front, I get why they went to an online storefront but they could steal an hour minimum out of every visit to the city.

I miss the old school cosmoline smelling milsurp shops my dad would take me to.

Novack’s London was my favourite stop and I’d ask to go there as a kid.

Sebaarms in Edmonton sells both guns and mil surp gear. Have been in there in years so I’m not sure what their firearms selection looks like

They've definitely gotten less common over the last decade. They've sort of separated into gun and non-gun stores. There are still some that carry a bit of both, but it would be a gun store that has some milsurp rather than a milsurp store.

Milarm used to be great, but they shut down.

Hero outdoors has a shit ton of everything military surplus. Last time I went, I was able to pick through a few until I found one of the quality I wanted.

However, I would not order from them online . Their store is literal chaos with items in multiple places and no real sense of organization. If you have the time and patience, you can find some gems there.
