News / Politics / Activism Im a Active Alberta Separatist, And a Gun Owner! AMA
12
u/KTMan77 sk Mar 31 '26
How would you expect a land locked province with resource exports as their main source of income to be prosperous in the long run? BC could just refuse to export any petroleum resources, the US would take advantage of the loss of Canadian selling power and refuse to pay enough for oil to even cover the cost to produce it or just roll up and do some sort of military operation to take control of it. Alberta would have no functional military and unlikely to have any military allies.
-1
u/Travelingtroopers Mar 31 '26
unlikely to have military allies
Im sure the yanks would love a Second Kuwait.
3
u/KTMan77 sk Mar 31 '26
That's not an answer.
-4
-2
u/black_covfefe_please Mar 31 '26
Canada already blocks all our exports. What would the difference be? At lease Canada wouldn't be stealing our money any more.
5
u/KTMan77 sk Mar 31 '26
I've never heard of that happening, when and how is that happening?
0
u/black_covfefe_please Mar 31 '26
Every pipeline we have tried to build in the last 15 plus years has been blocked. Ports on the BC coast have banned petroleum. If you didn't know this, you aren't paying attention.
0
u/Aggravating-Hawk-268 May 03 '26
Why would BC refuse to allow us to export resources? Then alberta would just refuse to allow any trucks through the border to BC. Nothing would move through Alberta.
Wouldn't happen anyway. Why does everyone jump to the conclusion that there would be some kind of hostile relationship between the two countries? Alberta and canada could coexist without any issues and be trade partners

What credentials did you provide to the Mods to get approved for this AMA?
Despite being fully qualified for the one I tried to start, it was denied :-(
11
2
u/CAFirearmSociety Mar 30 '26
What were those credentials?
4
u/TescoValueSoup Mar 30 '26
It was a picture of "my" feet.
I submitted "I have two legs and ten toes, and I'm a gun owner. We do exist. AMA"My proposition was: I’m happy to answer any good faith questions about toe or gun ownership, but please note I’m not here to argue or convince anyone that toes are necessary to participate in our hobby.
Just thought it might be interesting to provide insights from my P.O.V (Looking down at my feet) since I may not fit the regular mould of most Canadian gun owners.5
u/AdeptArt Mar 30 '26
I’m not gonna lie to you the rhino party one did what you wanted to do but better (since it was actually a political opinion).
Look, we get it. Standards for AMAs will be tightened going forward. We can take a joke so we approved this one and the rhino one since it would be hypocritical of us to allow the liberal one but disallow other political opinions. We had to draw the line somewhere because this is still supposed to be a firearms subreddit at the end of the day and unfortunately this means the sub won’t get to see your glorious toes.
I express my sincerity apologies for denying your magnificent toes the audience they deserve. Please accept my regrets. I hope you’ll give us a second chance in the future to see a glimpse of your feet in its proper glory in a not AMA context.
6
u/TescoValueSoup Mar 30 '26
Apology accepted. I will send you feet pics directly, as was previously the case.

Erhm you agaisnt my idealistic Canada where your province pays for everything my province does (dont worry we make sure to not have an economy) and actively vote to turn this country in to a hellhole, so achktually YOU are the traitor ???
13
u/WeightedDips95 Mar 31 '26
Lol this. Hearing lefties calling people “traitors” for not sticking around after they sold the country down the river is a special type of stupid. It takes intelligence to understand irony though. More than they can muster.
4
u/gamercast1337 Mar 31 '26
Shhhh youll anger the boomers and those who still think canada has a place in the sun. NEWS FLASH WE LOST THE MANDATE OF HEAVEN YEARS AGO, THAT CANADA NO LONGER EXISTS AND IF YOU WANT TO BRING IT BACK ITS GOING TO TAKE MORE THAN JUST VOTING OUT THE LIBERALS, IT WILL TAKE AN ENTIRE NEW PERSPECTIVE ON CANADA!!!
[ this is where id post a gif of a tiger growling in anger to show how serious I am. ]
Do i wish canada could reclaim its mandate of heaven? Yes. Do I expect it to? Well no I think the canada experiment has failed. We are a banana republic-like at best now... a maple republic?

u/WeightedDips95 Mar 31 '26
Zased, my young holy warrior. All we can do in the meanstwhile is sun our balls and prepare our bodies and minds for the upcoming struggle #NEVERGOON

How do you reconcile your ideals as a separatist with the insurmountable legal reality that your position is a fantasy?
Also, how does it feel to belong to a movement that is, at its core, a CIA side project?
8
u/Travelingtroopers Mar 30 '26
The same way I reconcile that the country we grew up in is now itself a fantasy.
Better a CIA side chick then a CCP!

I'll walk you through it.
Look at policy papers published by the Defense Analyses and Research Corporation that have a focus on Canada. You can look since the inception of this think tank, but in particular you can have a read through "The Centrifugal Strategy", from February of this year. You can look at other Republican doctrinal "research" but this one is particularly notable for reasons that will hopefully become apparent in the next step.
Look at DARC policy papers and tell me how often you see the policies proposed in those papers materializing 1 to 1 as US foreign policy under the current administration.
Think deeply and ask yourself which US agency is primarily responsible for foreign interference.
Dig a little deeper and imagine where the directives guiding that foreign interference come from.
Connect the dots.

u/black_covfefe_please Mar 31 '26
Canada has become a Chinese Communist side project. And Eastern Canadians just cheer. 🤷
7
u/Travelingtroopers Mar 30 '26
Big ups on the mods for approving this one too. You guys are alright.
10
u/AdeptArt Mar 30 '26
Look we just wanted to make clear the last AMA was not a random liberal gun owner, he was one who worked in an EDA. For any additional questions please continue on that post.
For this one I don’t think we need any extra proof that you’re an alberta separatist, we’ll take your word for it, and hope that this post drives some conversation too.
9
u/Paint_Spare Mar 30 '26
By this point, a part of me hopes Alberta seperates for its own sake if canada doesn't improve (obviously that's preferable) we don't deserve you keeping the country running. Big guts for posting, very pretty rifle too!
6
u/gamercast1337 Mar 31 '26
Same here. Im in a province that gets a lot of gimme handouts from Alberta and the feds and instead of us actually doing anything to increase our own economy here we just depend on the gov. Our provincial government (can you guys which province?) did a bunch of austerity cuts (admititly some of the cuts went too far and may make the situation worse) but a lot of cuts to the arts tourism etc which I support because we sre overspending in the worst/second worst provincial economy in this country. And the people protested because the goverment money was being turned off.
I want to say it was more older people protesting but I didnt look into it much but it seems like something theyd do lmao.
Long story short my province and people refuses to do better economically and I want alberta to stop footing the bill as we vote agaisnt making alberta richer (which would mean we get more of these handouts).
I did the calculations and im literally better off moving out west for work than staying here for work. How can I support that? They call us treasonous for this, but what about the treason to the people who cant have a good life here due to terrible government policies and boomers constant meddling? Id say THEY are the reason treasonous ones. Fuck em, alberta separates and we can see the boomers out here panic that their free ride is over.
4
u/black_covfefe_please Mar 31 '26
The funnest is NB (and some others) who have shale gas, but think it is bad for the environment to extract it. So 8nstead,they let Alberta extract our shale gas, and then NB take a handout from Alberta.
2
u/gamercast1337 Mar 31 '26
Its what we do here in our province too. They definitely didnt do as good of a job selling it to us years ago when we voted on if we wanted to or not and lots of people (myself included) were and still arent convinced that they wouldnt let it leak out to our drinking water and then not even bother to clean it up. Thats a failure on the government level to not have these safeguards and punishments in place and be willing to enforce tho, typical north america 🙄

I dont blame alberta at all. I love my country but can’t stand my government.

Do you feel the same way about Quebec separatists ?
6
-19
u/NemrahG Mar 30 '26 edited Mar 30 '26
Quebec separatism at least had some decent points like different culture and language. Alberta separatism is just a fantasy being pushed by the US for no good reasons.
28
u/TescoValueSoup Mar 30 '26
I'd argue the equalization payments and number of seats in the house alone are enough to show that Alberta has a stronger case than Quebec.
-1
u/NemrahG Mar 30 '26
Either way they’re both fantasies unless the other provinces are convinced to get on board, which is basically never going to happen.

Great, you are proud of being treasonous... congratulations. My great grandfather came to Alberta before there was an "Alberta" and generation after generation fought to build this province and country. It'll be over my dead body I allow traitorous swine to break it up.
23
u/Murray3-Dvideos Mar 30 '26
Democracy is Democracy, if the majority of Albertans want this then i see no issue with it (but realistically were looking at like 18%), in regards to Province building... each to their own, I know my Albertan ancestors would be VERY ashamed of what Canada has become in the last 10 years. Like seriously let's be real here, your crazy if you think the average Canadian of the late 1800s / early 1900s would be happy with what this country has become. Heck they didn't even believe in Female rights to vote!

You are a bold man to proclaim such a thing publicly online, especially on Reddit.
I see the comments are tearing you apart and your updoots are non existent.
If Quebec can threaten to do so publicly, and even kill politicians. Then get preferential treatment in the Federal parliament. Then Alberta can do the same. You lads contribute enough to the equalization payments anyway.
The feds need to understand there are consequences for not treating every part of the country equally.
Good luck in the endeavour.

I’m a gun owning Albertan as well but I am NOT a separatist. Here’s why.
- I’ve stopped to ask the important questions about separatist claims: Is that true? How would that work?
Asking those questions before accepting any separatist claim will give you a much better understanding of what the actual outcome of separation would be (hint: very very likely not good). But separatist count on you not thinking and just forming conclusions based on emotions.
I understand that Canada/Ottawa isn’t “taking our money”. Albertans pay federal taxes just like all other Canadians. We don’t pay higher rates than anyone else and we shouldn’t expect to pay lower rates.
I am familiar with the concepts of game theory. When you consider three major players (a sovereign Alberta, the rest of Canada, and the US) the outcome is Alberta being annexed by the US for national security reasons and turned into an exploited territory like Puerto Rico.
Separation is the worst possible means for attempting to improve life for Albertans.

17
u/Travelingtroopers Mar 30 '26
Its not treasonous if its done Democratically :)
The country is already being destroyed (see ASFCP, OICs, Current stage of everything, and the laws theyre already trying to push through) might aswell give it a little push

Here's an actual question for you. How would you think the best way to handle the people who want to leave to protect pensions/leave for whatever reason should go? And how about the people who think "fuck this is actually happening i want IN!" and want to move to Alberta? Assuming separation has happened at this point.
Would you want a grace period for both of these directions to move with relative ease? Like a boomer leaving to protect their "sucking the youth dry" pension and a guy moving in to finally go somewhere they could build themselves a new life?

I mean you are free to leave but might I point out that it’s somewhat unfair to blame the entire sub simply because one person in it expressed an opinion you disagreed with. Even looking at this AMA itself there’s disagreement. Which is a part of life.
0
u/Ah0te Mar 30 '26
This is not the first post and it won’t be the last. The fact you’re replying to me at all means you knew that allowing this post would be controversial and might lose some of your audience.
It’s fine, like you said, me leaving is my choice. I’ve seen too much divisive and far right rhetoric on this sub lately and it’s just not for me. I’ll take my guns and shoot em off in peace. Best of luck with the subreddit, I sincerely hope you find the audience you’re looking for.

The truth is we try to accommodate everyone we can, of different opinions. And sometimes this rubs people the wrong way. I’m sorry you had a poor experience here.
I don’t want to be the arbiter of morality. And I shouldn’t be. I’m not looking to fine tune the content for an audience. If something is not strictly disallowed, we’ll allow it, even if it’s something controversial. This place belongs to the people that participate in it. I simply believe in their right to express their opinion as long as it’s within other rules.
edit: the only thing is I’ll be a little bit regretful that we’ll be losing another voice. But yeah, have a good time outside of reddit.

The "chiefs" who make these claims don't represent the band members. Many indigenous peoples hate Ottawa as much as the rest of us. Heck, almost all persecution directed towards the indigenous peoples of Alberta came from Ottawa. Alberta actually helped preserve indigenous culture when Ottawa was trying to eradicate it.

I've come across quite a few Alberta Separatists, but that also identify as window lickers. How do you propose we integrate them in our movement?
-2
u/adhq Mar 31 '26
As an immigrant and QC resident of over 3 decades, I am sick and tired of the separatist movement in this province. Those who support it ignorantly refuse to accept the facts and reality. QC would not do well on its own. Ironically, I do not think the same about Alberta and actually somewhat sympathise with the desire of Alberta to become independent. And I emphasize "independent".
3
u/Travelingtroopers Mar 31 '26
Sorry youre sick and tired of the people born here having a desire of self determination.

You seem to forget that the majority of this whole country is populated by immigrants or descendents of immigrants. Unless your ancestors were native, you are a descendant of immigrants too. Self determination has nothing to do with your birth origin.

Wtf are you on about, dude? Read between the lines as much as you wish and you still won't find an attempt from me to silence anyone. I explicitly sympathised with your movement and desire in my first reply.
"Cope response"...wow! Even when you're supported, you need to go ahead and put your own foot in your mouth. Great job! That'll certainly get you to where you wanna get to. Now I'm getting an eerie deja-vu... QC separatists act the same. Digging their own grave without advancing their cause.

"I totally sympathize and support you, but i just hate you guys for having this opinion and being vocal about it at all!"
You cant support AB independence without QC independence. Simple as. Freedom for all. Down with the laurentian elite

Do you know Mike in Canmore?
Do my AR15s have safe haven in AB? Will they be allowed to live free or die?
And lastly, will AB take DEI refugees from BC if they are PAL holders?
