Application / Regulation advice Borrowing a handgun (Canada)

Hello firearm owners.

My name is Sean and I’m looking to borrow a handgun from anyone that is in the GTA area (greater Toronto area). I have started going to IDPA competitions and would like to participate in them, which requires a handgun. Unfortunately, due to our current standing law, I am no able to buy a handgun myself. If anyone is willing to lend me a firearm, if you could shoot me a Dm, I am willing to pay to borrow it.

I will also be able to verify my current RPAL status to any lender.

Thanks!

What other options do new shooters have?

Gun clubs should find a way to facilitate new IPSC shooters.

One club recently put out a notice for a "New Shooter" introduction course, but it requires a pistol; it's literally a chicken and egg situation.

Do antiques count? That's the only option i can think of other than borrowing/renting.

Do antiques count?

Yeah, that is pretty much the only "retail" solution, but buying an antique in Canada is very expensive, although I did get some advice that importing an antique from the US might not be that difficult. Also, I am not sure how competitive one would be with an antique revolver versus a modern handgun.

Personally, I think IPSC and gun clubs need to realize the reality of the handgun situation. It has already been four to five years, which is half a generation of new shooters; there needs to be a way to accommodate dynamic shooting for those without a pistol (i.e. mini-rifle or shotgun).

Some clubs do have handgun rentals, but too many still do not due to liability or other reasons.

Clubs do realize it pretty well, but there are no easy solutions. It’s hard to justify investing (e.g. in providing rentals) when that can also be outlawed the next day, as PCCs were. I don’t think we’ll see any improvements while we have a hostile government intentionally trying to kill off the whole sport
