Gun and gear reviews French tickler SKS are all sold out now.
One week ago, still can find from several dealers on line. Now all shows"out of stock".

FYI, our supplier said commercial-ready T56 SKS has dried up in China at the end of 2024. We won't be seeing another wave of T56 SKS until they open a long-forgotten bunker full of stockpile somewhere.

So sad, makes me wish I bought one or two more just for shits

u/rundoublez Mar 25 '26
Don't be sad, all surplus shares the same fate: Lee Enfield, SVT, now the SKS. Just enjoy while the party lasts.

Any info on surp 7.62x39 ammo?
I'm wondering if it's time to finally cave and get a progressive press.
11
u/rundoublez Mar 25 '26
There are enough 7.62x39 for everyone on this planet to shoot every day. It's just going to cost more and more each day to get them shipped here, as diesel prices skyrocketed, like everything else in this country, or around the world. Get your stuff when it's cheaper than tomorrow, IMHO.

Yep, that's always been my strategy - Buy it cheap and stack it deep, etc.
I just don't remember the last time I saw crates of actual surplus stocked in any of my nearby gun stores, despite SKSes being sold out and showing up at the range. None of them have any idea when they'll get more, either. Only thing I ever see is red box.

They’ve been gone just like the .308 crates
1
u/CryptidWorks CryptidWorks Mar 25 '26
Yeah, that tracks. Might have to go progressive and start crankin' them out using campro .303 bullets and bulk powder. Guess it's time for math later.

Lever arms has 1100 rnd crates for $475 or Gotenda for cases of Red Norinco 500rnd for 279

They will be back. Maybe not FTs but the Chinese made plenty of them. Worst case we can import Russian rifles from a nato country like Poland or the baltic countries.

I have one but I wanted to grab one as a gift (the gift of foresight). I was too slow.

Can you or somebody else tell me what is the difference between the French ticklers and the other sks models?
The SKS is still available right? It's just you guys all love that specific version?
2
u/Mirin_Gains Mar 27 '26
The French Tickler have a unique handguard and are new old stock. That is to say they got test fired and put in a crate for 40 years.
Most Russians have been used. Some in good shape, some refurbished and some beat to shit.
They all function the same really. Some minor differences.

You can still get em at gun shows some sites like Tenda they pop up on consignment. But you will be paying more than what their worth in my opinion

u/mwmwmwmwmmdw Mar 26 '26
there will always be sks for sale on the second hand market. just depends if you are willing to pay for it

Get a buddy to get you one know. Then you can take ownership once you get it 👍🏻

What’s good about French tickler vs regular sks
22
u/Ok_Reason5045 Mar 25 '26
it is unissued which means brand new. it is also well made.

Just the condition of the firearm, they're pretty much newish out of the box.
4
u/Mahatma_Ghandicap Mar 25 '26
it was the only thing left at retail lol
But also, they are unissued and good quality.
1
u/Hotdog_Broth Mar 26 '26
Marginally better quality, and after being cleaned up, most of them are in good enough condition that they look like they were manufactured this year.

There was a flash sale a couple of days ago, 14% discount site-wide. I think that's the last time we'll see Ticklers at sub-750 in our lifetimes.

u/TheRip91 Mar 28 '26
I was in SFRC they say they have warehouses full of crates they don't even know whats in the boxes. They just get bulk orders, could sxs, mausers, sks w/e. There inventory is always changing for surplus.

I traded an old .22 for one. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Was missing the sight leaf. $25 and it is back to 100%.

u/JinkalinkNinja Mar 25 '26
I picked up a brand new type 56 in December of 25 for $650. Today the same store is selling the same rifle for $850
2
u/Ok_Reason5045 Mar 25 '26
Yes, I talked to a gunshop sales about how price went up so quickly. He said it will keep on going up no kidding.
2
u/Hotdog_Broth Mar 26 '26
I think mine was $420 just over two years ago
1
u/robot_nixon Mar 27 '26
8 years ago they were still around 100 dollars weren't they?
I remember seeing them for $99 but I can't remember exactly how long ago that would've been... And time flies.
3
u/TescoValueSoup Mar 25 '26
Give them a few days - they just need to go out back and open another crate.
2
u/Eisenbahn-de-order Mar 25 '26
I'm still seeing deals on sks on second hand sites so as long as you are sitting on your guns you'll be able to grab em
1
u/CreditUnable4610 Mar 25 '26
So your saying i should just buy a russian? I was waiting for them to re stock the past week but it still says out of stock
1
u/I-LOVE-HENRY-RIFLES Mar 25 '26
There’s more in warehouses. Just wait for them to open up some crates.
