Application / Regulation advice New gun ban
Just wondering what options one has if they potentially possess a firearm that has made the ban/restricted list. I'd ideally not like to sell it back to the gov't if I can avoid it, and am holding out for the law changing in the future. However I recently saw something that said the gun must be permanently disabled. I was planning on just removing the firing pin to disable the firearm, however I heard the barrel must be welded shut to permanently disable it. Please advise me if possible. What other options do I have with the firearms? Would I be able to transfer them or gift them to family I have in the states? Thanks in advance.

Based on their last press conference, there's very little chance of you having to do anything. They've failed to scare people enough to register for the program, and they've failed to get a collections scheme in place.
What that means is that as the deadline ticks closer they will be forced to extend the deadline, modify the program, or cancel everything. This is because you cannot make criminals out the better part of 10% of the population without it blowing up in your face. This is a weak and poorly designed program based on ideology that is currently being carried out by ineffectual leaders.
Even now, I have seen people test the waters of what they are allowed to do with their banned firearms, and that will grow. By October they have the option to 1: Kick the can down the road to keep everyone from realizing the emperor has no clothes, or 2: Admit that they cannot do anything to remove the banned rifles from the population.
Keep your head down, it's a staring contest and all signs point to them blinking first.

It would have to be professionally deactivated. Simply removing the firing pin would obviously not be considered permanent. You can try to use a service like I Run Guns to send them to the states. Personally, Im not doing a thing, let them come to my door to collect.

Do nothing until October 30, then destroy them and report destruction to RCMP.

Legally that depends when you destroy it. If you destroy it after its been banned, you need to report it, even NR

I’m assuming they meant specifically non restricted too. Even if I chose to deactivate it, I wouldn’t report shit for a non restricted.

You should by now already know the first three options you have. As every PAL owner has received at least 3 emails about this program outlining the three avenues you have to partake. The avenue you're talking about is deactivation and requires the process be completed and certified to RCMP standfard by a gunsmith. You cannot deactivate a firearm yourself unless you are registered as such with the RCMP.
The fourth option available, which is not outlined in those emails, is to simply destroy the firearm yourself. You are legally allowed to destroy your own firearm, but you are legally required to report it's destruction to a peace officer, firearms officer or chief firearms officer with reasonable despatch per section 106 of the criminal code. So far as I'm able to tell, that encompasses your obligations in full. The destruction must be done before October 31st unless amnesty is extended, but are able to report it after the deadline.
The fifth option is do nothing, and continue possessing a prohibited firearm.

Hey can someone please let me know which type 81 variant is the best? The blonde side folder, or the cherry side folder? The cherry one has a phosphate finish, and the blonde one has a blued finish. Thanks.
