Shitpost / Memes Benelli M1 Appreciation Post

Howdy Folks!

The Texan is back with yet ANOTHER Gun Appreciation Post, where today we have a classic Duck Gun that is used for the hunting season. Well at one point in time.

These were sold in Canada at one point in time before they were prohibited. Maybe I am wrong on that one, feel free to correct me if I am wrong. The Benelli M1 Super 90 is just a great shotgun that is a retro classic. You could duck hunt with it, and it also was popular amongst Law Enforcement Units around the world. This also kind of set the standard of what modern Semi-Automatic shotguns should be in design philosophy. They should be robust, reliable, and easy to maintain.

I have actually had the chance to hold one myself, and it’s one dream shotgun that I personally want, mainly for its retro feel. While it’s not manufactured anymore, the legacy of it lives on in the Benelli M2 Shotgun, where it is also inertia driven! I believe those are also available in Canada as well, you can let me know in the comments about that.

From what I read there were a few M1 variants that were banned but unbanned later. M2 and M4 are legal for purchase in Canada, M3 is prohibited, however there is an “M3 Clone” that has been discontinued but is still available.

I believe it’s due to the fact that it is a “dual action” firearm. Like the SPAS-12(also prohibited) you can switch between semiautomatic and pump action allowing you to fire lighter breaching loads or non lethal rounds(pump action) and then switch back to lethal heavier rounds(semi auto). These shotguns are more geared towards law enforcement and not hunting, which is likely why they were banned as “assault style” firearm.

I agree, it was cool enough that I bought the sulun arms tac12 M3 super 90 which is a Canadian legal benelli M3 clone. It uses an M2 receiver and “m3 like parts”. I haven’t had a chance to take it out yet but I’m excited to test it out. It’s unfortunate they have discontinued it though, once they sell out that’s it for them unless another M3 clone hits the market.
