Misc Went with the Coey (I'm glad I did)

Was deciding between a coey model 60 rusted out with a cracked stock or a norinco. I opted for the coey and after plenty of elbow grease she is in fine working condition. Barely any rust now with a few more spots to touch up (I kept the ball on the bult rusty for aesthetic) and It was an absolutely blast to shoot over the weekend. Best $125 I've spent in a long while!

Themodel 60 is a beauty. Oddly enough despite being the oldest .22 I own, it is easily the 2nd most accurate .22 I own

What's the most accurate you've shot?

On a couple sandbags and a no wind sort of warm day using CCI small game subsonics (about 1050 fps I believe) I can fit 5 rounds in about 7/8" at 50 meters with irons. But thats in perfect conditions and my eyes are not great with irons anymore. My most accurate is my savage Mark II FV-SR that will Clover leaf a group of 10 at 50 meters with the same ammo but with a 2-7 power optic

But my Model 60 still shoots the heads off of any grouse I get the irons on!

I'll certainly have to try it come the fall. Only ever used a coey 840 on grouse so far

Definitely give it a shot! I usually use a .17 HMR for grouse but .22lr is way nicer on the ears!

I always found if the shot spread too much you would punch feathers into meat or get shot in the meat it if you use too light a load. Hesdshots with .22 or .17 is the way to go

same here. mine has a bent front sight, but once I learned the hold, I'm consistently getting better standing groups than my H001, my norinco, and my 10/22.

Lol same here, mine is bent to the right, so I just drifted the sight to compensate instead of risking snapping the front sight. These things are great little rifles, also more accurate than my Mark II G, 10/22, cooey 39, and both versions of my savage 64's. Only thing more accurate than my model 60 is a Savage Mark II FV-SR but that's also my only scoped .22

I got my grandpas. He used to take it to school in the city and shoot varmint after school in the woods (now a mall/rec centre)

Any issues? Misfires / extraction / etc?

I had a bit of an issue with the magazine tube but that was my own fault. I had to crimp the end of the magazine tube with my leatherman to get the silver pushing thing from launching out.

All and all though not a single misfire, it's ran perfectly so far. It does shoot high and to the left but I'll get that sorted somehow

They clean up pretty nice, even when they are neglected. One of the two I have was inherited and it sat in a damp farmhouse for the last 15-20 years. A little bit of steel wool and oil to clean up the surface rust, and after inspecting the rifling it turned out to be in good shape. They don't make them like they used to.

Those and old Remington 1100's and other vintage semi auto shotguns are going to be my fixation this year. Shockingly cheap for how good of a firearm they are. I finally have a bunch of wall space to display them.

Thought with all the induced inflation, the cheapest firearm you can secure are in the 400s

A steal of a price eh! It was covered in rust and has a crack in the stock but after a lot of 0000 steel wool, a brass brush, clp and spray on bore cleaner she's in great shape! All other ones I've seen on gunpost are $250-400 so I'm very happy with 125

It's a great rifle.

I have two: one from my Grand Pa and one from my dad.

They'll be passed on to my two sons as family heirloom.

That's awesome! I'm grateful you have two to eventually pass down.

I'm hoping then to take up this heritage also and while newer rifles fade away, please God I can give this rifle and my grandparents coey 840 as well, to my children and their children. That would be quite the honor.
