Milsurps / Prohib How'd I do?

Post image

Picked up a sporter SMLE today on the cheap. clean bore, good finish, decent wood. The trigger is maybe the smoothest Enfield trigger I've ever felt. pretty excited to shoot it!

People hate bubba Lee Enfield here for some reasons, only second to BCL and Crusader Arms.

At the same time, proper/restored Lee Enfields are asking for crazy money, Sporters gives you the most bang for the buck, I just wish the ammo doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.

I've got a Long Branch No.4 MK1 sporter, I have the most fun with it by far out of my 3 guns. Hope you enjoy it! Trenda has S&B 303 on sale for about $1.75 a round.

I have the same .303 and added an Addley Precision bolt-on scope mount with a brand new 10-50X60 Nikko Stirling Diamond scope to see what kind of distance I can get out of her.

I've had mine since '77 and other than the usual cleaning with Hoppe's 9 never did any more until yesterday. Got some stuff called Wipe-Out that cleans out anything and gave her a shot. Came out bright navy blue indicating a lot of copper. Let it sit in there for an hour then ran a couple patches thru. Nasty still so flipped the gin upside down, levelled the barrel and did it again. Still looks dirty after 4 patches so going to set it up in the Lead Sled again and do two more soaks but 24 hours each this time. Looked clean and shiny before trying this stuff but glad I did.

I'm going to be ordering ammo online and like the S&B as it's not made in the US. The local Co-op got a new stock of ammo last week and I looked in there today and not a single box of 303 Brit and they charged $54.95 for it when they had it and only had Federal. Most places I've looked are around $40/box but I don't know about shipping.

Does it have to go courier or Can. Post OK? I'll buy whatever it takes to get free shipping as I want shot shells, .270Win etc as well. Gotta stock up for the zombie apocalypse or any other type of invasion. ;)

Trenda has free shipping if you spend more than $300. I don't think Canada Post ship ammos, last time I bought from Trender they used GLS courier.

Ok thanks. I'll check them out. You don't mean Tenda Canada do you as I ended up there and what a frustrating site to use. Set filters for .22 - In Stock then hit filter and get a 'No results' message. I'm not wading thru

I don't think I've ever seen GLS up here in northern Alberta but I'm sure they know which one to use. FedEx is the only one that delivers in the small town 10 miles away where I get my PO Box mail at the post office so says the wife. Purolator drops at a town a half hour away but if I use a friend's home addy in another town close by they do home deliver.

I've spent the last 4 hours shopping around for a good used .22 bolt action but kind of hot for a nice lever action I bookmarked.

Yes, tenda. Their website is terrible and shipping is slow but can't beat their price sometimes especially they are the very few that offer free shipping for ammo.

I got the addley on mine too but i opted for the synthetic Monte Carlo stock because my timber was completely trashed (got it off a buddy on a native reserve)

I was thinking of getting one of those stocks too and thought I'd found one for just under $200 but never got a response . Now I put a big honking scope on it and will see how far I can reach out with it. Weighs 14lbs but I only have to pack it from the car to a bench I have a nice light Savage Axis 1 .270 for packing around the bush. My wood stock is in great shape with the usual wear and tear an 84 year old gun will have. I doubt the wood has ever been off it since it was sported long before I got her in '77.

TNT gunworks, they've got a few sporters right now. I picked mine up for 300 all in.

That seems to be the going price on the auctions I've seen lately.

Nice man! Not too hard to restore if you wanted. A great way to do it is to order a DP rifle for cheap and steal the parts and wood

Plus then you have spares

I was under the impression that it wasn’t that easy. I was told it takes a good gunsmith or whoever does wood work to fit the 2 together. They were produced 1 gun at a time so not all wood interchangeable, I’ve got a friend with 2 sportsters he’s thought about putting one of them back to original, maybe he was misinformed

They are mass produced firearms so yeah there will be some fitting needed when you mix around the wood and such but its usually not that bad like hand tools and maybe some wood filler unless your gun/wood is warped or fucky

Also dont sand the fuck out of it, rounds edges and ruins fitting. The main issue is when the barrel is chopped and sporter shit all fucked about, then its a pain in the dick
