News / Politics / Activism Does the RCMP definitively know what guns you own?

I've got my third notification about my final chance to apply for the gun buyback. But as far as I know I don't own any prohibited weapons. My rifles are either bolt action or lever action, except for a .22 and a shotgun, which last I checked were not on the list. They may be on a future list.

I assume they are just emailing everyone with a PAL because they're too lazy to go through the records to send out emails with the prohibited weapon(s) in question. My view is that until you show up at my door with a request for a specific weapon, STFU. My .22 was peanuts and they're never going to compensate me full value for my shotgun, so MEH.

Marginal note:Destroying

106 (1) Every person commits an offence who

(a) after destroying any prohibited firearm, restricted firearm, prohibited weapon, restricted weapon, prohibited device or prohibited ammunition, or

(b) on becoming aware of the destruction of any prohibited firearm, restricted firearm, prohibited weapon, restricted weapon, prohibited device or prohibited ammunition that was in the person’s possession before its destruction,

does not with reasonable despatch report the destruction to a peace officer, firearms officer or chief firearms officer.

Marginal note:Punishment

(2) Every person who commits an offence under subsection (1)

(a) is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years; or

(b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.

It sounds like putting the lower in the chop saw should be enough, but I guess I’m just used to them screwing us harder than that.
