For context:

My great-grandpa was a civilian Engineer at the start of WW2 and he was exempt from frontline service and it seems he was flown to and from Canada during the course of the war.

At some point he picked up a Lee-Enfield in .22 caliber and a Webly Mark VI revolver in .45

He was allowed to carry 500 around at one time and allowed to purchance up to 1500 rounds over 3 years.

That looks pretty similar to my dad's firearms license. I now wonder if the Commonwealth countries used to all use the same template for firearms licenses at one point

It is from the UK. Canada didn't have a license requirement until 1978, when the Firearms Acquisition Certificate (FAC) was imposed.

I thought so seeing it is stamped in Portsmouth. Sailed from there several times. Just loved the document, it was probably approved faster than any permit in California.
