Misc Firearms and house insurance

Anything special to consider? Do you have some/all of your firearms included as scheduled items?

My house had $14,000 worth of stuff stolen. Lamps, meat, cheese, clothing, blankets, jewelry, electronics, firearms, you name it. I put the 2 firearms on the list of items, insurance paid me the depreciated value just like everything. I took that money bought them again and they paid the difference. They even bought me new trigger locks. They were a Winchester sxp defender ($450) and a marlin 795 ($275?) and a $40 scope.

Things I learned, ask if there is a limit to any items. In my case there was a $5,000 limit to collections unless it had been arranged prior. Have your jewelry appraised periodically.

The police and insurance did not care firearms were stolen.

I’ve heard the same for stolen NR firearms. They don’t care much.

They seem to perk their eyes and ears up if they’re R’s though

Yeah, a (very well off) family friend had a Ram 3500 back into his house, tie a chain around his gun safe, and make off with 15-20 NR’s and R’s (from back in the AR days). Expensive stuff too.

They said “oh well they’re prob in Kelowna now”.
