Gun and gear reviews .225/5.56
Looking at buying some bulk ammo. Is there a brand to stay away from or which is better than the rest? Gonna be used for plinking and shit.

If you just want to plink and have fun, PMC is probably the most reliable and is quite cheap!

55c per round is a fucking steal. I've bought most of mine at 0.60/Rd (PMC) and was pretty happy with that price. Noticed this deal on Tenda this week too.
I've bought a few boxes of the STV stuff and it was fine. For cheap plinking ammo my favourite is PMC Bronze 223, my MVP Patrol and my Troy SAR both shoot it very nicely.
STV was good, id still buy it for the price, but my rifle didn't quite like it as much, but it also uses a 1:9 twist. In my 16" 1:9 MVP Patrol, PMC does shoot a bit better but not a huge difference

I bought a box of 1000 STV, haven't shot it yet but it's cheaper than PMC so we'll see.

That STV Scorpio is the cheapest box of .223 at my local range. It works fine for me, haven’t had any issues with it yet whatsoever.

They had issues with their 9mm during the COVID/early Ukraine war years.
But at that pricing, cant really complain.

I bought the STV and shoot them out of my MRA Renegade. Sometimes there will be light strikes with LAR-15 mags, but no problem with Cross or MFT mags; could be a mag issue. Also, sometimes the brass is tight and I have to pull the charging handle hard to extract. PMC Bronze, have zero issues and always go bang.

Supposedly were on old stock of 5.56/.223 due ban reducing the need, but down south prices has risen dramatically.

Down south they still pay significantly less than us still, but I think with the currency exchange rate, the prices aren't too different.
I definitely don't think we're on old stock either because since the bans, I'm sure we've all seen 223 sell out dozens of times in gun stores everytime it goes on sale, and I doubt importers were keeping 5 years worth of bulk 223 sitting in a warehouse somewhere.
My 16" MVP patrol in 223 is a blast to shoot still, and I say that even owning some of the remaining semi auto centerfire rifles. It's one of my favourite calibers to shoot and I love that it's still pretty affordable to shoot.

If you’re plinkin less than or around 100m Any of those 55gr will work fine, farther id look at the 62gr or heavier bullets, you’ll end up with much better groups

PMC is fine. Also has the advantage of not being american. Selier& Bellot is good too.

I find out PMC has a good price to quality ratio. So that’s my suggestion.
That aside, anything works for plinking and shit 😄
