Fix my gun Brand New SKS Safety Looser than my sister :(

So I bought a Chinese Sks French tickler two days ago. I take it home, disassemble it and clean it. Then I realize the Safety is loose, there is no tension. so holding it technically it’s always live.

I take it to the store and they say they don’t have tools to fix it, the safety catch spring blade is probably broken and it will cost me 188 plus tax to replace the entire trigger group.

I’m in Ontario and am trying to find a cheaper solution, whether it be a new trigger group for cheaper or fixing the issue.

I honestly don’t got much experience with guns…

Appreciate it

Kinda needs an area code or it's basically useless.

Funny story. I used to work somewhere that the # was 800-267-2000.... We had many calls. This was back when Google maps was new and we would look up the address and tell them it was too bad of a neibourhood to send a tech for an alarm, get a dog, etc...

Probably find someone who would sell you one or fix it for your sisters #

How do you... never mind.

Yeah, I don’t want to know either

Update: took it to a gunsmith. Said the Chinese dude who put the trigger together put some piece backwards. Happy to know it ain’t my fault lol. Said cost me labour to take the trigger apart and fix, but probably won’t even need parts.

If they don’t accept a return, name and shame. There’s no reason for a tickler to be damaged while still brand new.

It's a surplus firearm, even if it's new old stock it's still a mass produced firearm dug out of a warehouse it was put in several decades ago, I don't know many places that offer returns or exchanges on firearm in general let alone surplus ones

Milsurp is always sold without guarantee and warranty

I have the same issue. Although I never use a safety. It doesn’t really matter, it’s just annoying

8

u/AdeptArt Mar 17 '26

Why can't you just return it? this is bad customer service from the store.

13

u/PEAKSANDTREKS Mar 17 '26

Said no warranties :(

They should swap you another rifle in stock and deal with their distributor.

Name and shame!

Sorry about the rifle, the SKS is usually god-tier reliable.

I can’t help but think it’s the stores responsibility to test before selling. Can you call your bank? Maybe a chargeback to recoup some funds is possible.

Like 99% of stores don't accept returns or exchanges on surplus firearms in my experience

u/Johnny-Unitas Mar 17 '26

How do we all know the point of reference for your comparison? There's really only one way and that involves taking some shots.

Shops BS aside, why are you looking to replace the entire trigger group over a broken leaf spring? Just replace the spring man

0

u/PEAKSANDTREKS Mar 17 '26

I have no idea how and can’t find anyone to do it :(

This is like buying a new motor for your car because you dont know how to change the oil.

Spend 15 minutes on YouTube and save yourself $150

Go to your gunsmith maybe 🤷

5

u/Spartapwn Mar 17 '26

Return or just deal with it, tbh it’s a mass produced Soviet garbage rod, this kinda thing happens

3

u/PEAKSANDTREKS Mar 17 '26

Said no warranties. Said to take it to another gunsmith or buy a new trigger group from them for 2 bills

Did you use s credit card? Disputing the charge because they sold you a defective item is an option

3

u/GodsGiftToWrenching Mar 17 '26

Well no heres the thing, A) it's a surplus firearm, it won't be perfect even new old stock and B) did OP handle the firearm before taking it home? The context in his description says he picked it up in person so did the store offer him to take a look before agreeing to leave with it? Did he decline looking at it before walking out the door?

u/DoYouGetSarcasm Mar 17 '26

I agree that he may or may not win the dispute, but it's an option to try. And the business might not want to risk it and cave and accept a return.

2

u/GodsGiftToWrenching Mar 17 '26

Yeah but that's kinda of like, a dick move almost, as I don't know any stores that accept returns on surplus firearms and if OP picked it up in person it should have been looked over first which may have revealed the broken saftey spring. And I'm not trying to shit on OP but there may have been some complacency in the purchasing process somewhere so to charge back on that, kind of a dick move. In my opinion

I think a store should not be able to say no warranty, no returns, and then sell defective equipment. I think you should expect mil surplus you have scuffs, wear, dirt, maybe even light damage in some cases, and that this wouldn't be covered under warranty.

But i think it's on the store not to sell fully defective items (unless the description matches that), like if the chamber has a weld plug, or the bolt doesn't lock, or it's missing a bolt return spring; id say the store should cover that.

The safety is kinda in the middle of those two ends. So i see where you're coming from. I'm not right i just have a different opinion.

Looking at the g4c listing for the French tickler, they kinda talk this thing up like it's great. And they cost 850 on sale (no stock right now). Their disclosure says there might be minor paint/rust/pitting issues. I would want some sort of remedy on this and I'd consider a CC dispute if the store wouldn't help. But again that's me

Fair but at the same time they're not a manufacturer and it's not a new product so it's not really in them if something is broken. If anything they could add that to the description stating they are not responsible for any broken or malfunctioning parts but even if it was a new Savage 110, if you got home and realized after cleaning that the search doesn't engage the striker, well you checked it over in the store so you should have know, plus they probably wouldn't return or exchange, they would most likely refer you to Savage for warranty you know?

Now if the store never offered to open the box and show OP the rifle I'd say that is better grounds as that is misleading, but if OP checked over the gun in the store and said "yeah this is fine" and brought it home, well, thats on him as he should have function checked everything and really isn't grounds for a charge back you know? I dont know how the ticklers are packaged but my chinese with blade and new old stock spike chinese both only had preservative oil on them, not grease so with oil you would be able to notice a floppy spring

if the safety loose, you should realize the safety problem before the disassemble, consider the position of the safety and how to disassemble the sks.

G4C Markham

Did you buy via mail order or in store? In the store, they unbox the SKS and let you try it out first.

Nevertheless surplus firearms are generally final sale. Even new firearms, many stores won't take it back and will tell you to deal with the distributor.

I bought a shotgun at FOC in December, it was defective out of the box, was told to send it to the distributor for warranty repair two months ago, still waiting for it to come back...

3

u/PEAKSANDTREKS Mar 17 '26

Yea seems like I will need to find someone who can fix it, or a new trigger group for cheaper, or just take the one their supplier is offering for 188

1

u/AdeptArt Mar 17 '26

At least your situation is better than OPs, hopefully the distributor fixes it for you.

4

u/Hot_Cheesecake_905 Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 17 '26

My shotgun was double feeding out of the box, so I took it to Tactical Ordnance and they thought one of the feed latches might not have been staked properly.

It would have only cost me $50 to fix, but I decided to send it back to the distributor in case it might be something else rather than the latches.

The distributor informed me then informed me they were probably going to use Tactical Ordnance for the repair 😂

Maybe I was penny smart, pound foolish in this case - I should have just paid the $50 for repair and hoped for the best.

3

u/AdeptArt Mar 17 '26

I would’ve just sent it in out of principle. They gotta stand behind their product. I’m not shelling out $50 cuz of their mistake, you know? lol.
