Shitpost / Memes Need to rent a share from Sharon Gun Club
Hi all, I live in Toronto. I visited the Sharon gun club on Saturday last week. Tried to contact few people who left notes for renting shares. No luck. I tried to contact 3 people. All of them have been rented out, but somehow their notes still available on the board.
Is there someone here that can help me to secure a share?

Did you leave a note of your own on the board?
Perhaps someone will call you. I was going to recommend the GunPost ad, but it looks like that one was also rented out.
Also, the going rate can be negotiated; don't take it at face value.

Also be aware that after securing a share, you'll need to complete the probationary course, which is run once a month and takes a full day.
You'll also need to arrange five probationary shoots, which typically take 1–2 hours per shoot on weekends or, if you're lucky, during the weekday if someone is available. The club's training officer runs a pretty good rotation of people who are willing to do sign offs.
This can take 2–3 months before you get a white badge depending on your scheduling. There are also no guests allowed during Year 1.
Trap shooting requires another one-hour course (free)
Range 4 (200m/300m) requires another full-day course.
Dynamic shooting ranges require an IPSC Black Badge.4

Man I hated the probationary shoots. Pay a shocking amount of money just to be hamstrung until you find the time to show up to the range to fire 25 rounds then go home. Repeat 5 times. Oh and you never know if there will actually be anyone present to sign off on the shoot outside of summertime

One pet peeve I have is that there is no real pathway for non-IPSC Black Badge members to use the dynamic action ranges.
SGC does not offer rental handguns, so it is impossible to obtain the certification at the club to shoot at half the ranges.
I think it is time clubs start looking at the reality of the gun ban situation and start making accommodations for new members to be able to shoot with shotgun or rifles on ranges previously restricted to Black Badge holders.

The inverse is also weird where having a black badge allows you to use the action ranges, yet they still deem it necessary to observe you shooting 10 rounds out of a .22lr on five separate occasions to let you use the club at all. And you better be available at 10am on a Saturday to do it or else you're SOL.
If I recall correctly, IPSC canada instructors started doing PCC black badge courses after the pistol ban. I wonder if they offer shotgun black badge courses nowadays? In any case the black badge is just a BS canadian innovation so they can really do what they want with it afaik. No one I meet when I'm stateside has ever heard of a "black badge" .
I will add that SGC is undoubtedly the best "public" range in the GTA despite the annoyances. Despite this I'm finding it increasingly difficult to resist the temptation of selling my share considering the inevitable death of shooting sports in this country.

Thank you for sharing. My goal is just to practice my bolt action rifle skills. Only they have a 300 yard near GTA😂

You can do the range 6 course for P/R/S for rifle and shotguns.

I was told Range 6 PRAC P/R/S needs a PRAC/P, which requires a Black Badge.
I've been reading the member's handbook up and down to see if there is a loophole, but it seems that "to gain PRAC P/R/S qualification, a member must first be PRAC/P qualified as described above. In addition to their PRAC/P qualification", they must either compete in IPSC or shoot in a club match.
So it comes back to the Black Badge and handgun requirement, even if someone only wants to shoot rifle and shotgun?
The club perhaps needs to have a PRAC R/S only qualification?

Nope your correct the dependency is still the PRAC/P in addition to the R6 course or IPSC match. The only way I could see this change would be the board updating the requirements reflecting the current ban/freeze status.

I have my Black Badge, question about the dynamic ranges: Are they set up as a course of fire similar to IPSC or are all the targets in a line at the berm and it’s the shooter who can move freely within the boundaries of those ranges? LTVFG has dynamic ranges but set up is the latter. Thinking it would be worth the switch if there’s actual IPSC style setups to practice between matches.

Yes, they're setup as IPSC, you can move the targets and barriers around. However, the CFO did mandate that there needs to be a minimum of 2 Black Badge shooters - apparently you can no longer shoot alone...

Unfortunately no, not unless you're supervised by a full club member.
As one of the members told me "It's a lot of hoops to jump through, but once you're done, you have full reign of the club".
So just be prepared Year 1 you'll lose out on a few months of membership as you get your sign offs done.

You can get the probation shoots over with in a week or 2 (in the summer at least).

You need to finish your probation shoots first and in theory yes. You should try Oshawa or orono also. They're both also great clubs. In all hindsight Hallum was the best thing that ever happened to Markham back in the day.

I’ve already rented my spare share out for this season. The best place to check for available shares is the board in the club house at SGC.

There is generally someone in the office Tuesday and Thursday as well (9-2). If someone is there they may let you in but there’s no guarantee outside the posted office hours. https://sharongunclub.com/contact.html

The club year starts in July. So closer to May you probably will see people stop-start renting shares and try get on the first available club safety course since you must do it before any probation shoots and that's the usual bottleneck.
