Buy recommendations Need advice on .22lr
Hey everyone I am planning to buy my first .22lr. I have narrowed down my list to Ruger 10/22, Ruger American.22 lr and Savage Mark 2. I am afraid to buy a semi auto as they might just ban it. I need some help with choosing the best out of three. If you have any other better recommendations within same budget please let me know.

Get a 10/22. Lots of aftermarket support, great platform to learn on and you can sink 50 bucks into it to see a quality of life jump or 500, it's the one rifle I put in my range bag every time.
You can't live in fear over bans, just buy what catches your eye.
Bonus tip. If you get the 10/22, get a MagLula speed loader. You'll thank me later.

The government has banned bolt action rifles in the past too.
Just buy the 10/22 and enjoy it. They're a lot of fun.

Buy whatever you like. I’m a bolt guy. When I’m at the range I like working on accuracy more than mag dumps. So I would suggest a mk2G. But like I said, buy what you like.

Tbh I think I'm the same. I bought a TM22, and have an SKS, but there's something about manual action I seem to prefer. Taking my time, and trying to be as accurate as possible. TM22 is what I've been shooting the most since I've only had it a couple months, but once the novelty wears off, I'll probably go back to my cz457, and start buying more bolts and levers than anything else. Even before I had my PAL, I had a bolt action .22 air rifle, and I liked it a lot more than any semi's I used over the years.. Although mag dumping is fun. 🤷🏻♂️

I wouldn’t worry much about the 10/22 getting banned. Out of the options you listed the 10/22 is probably the best option, lots of support and reliable.
Personally tho, I like the ruger american rimfire more, I think the action is better designed and the trigger is adjustable from the factory.

We are very different people.
I'm looking at the Ruger 10/22 and the Darya TM22 just in CASE they ban them.
Good cheap fun until they potentially ban them, hodlgang until they get unbanned.

I like the savage mark 2. My old man has a lakefield mark 2(basically the same gun) and I've used it many times and its a solid grouse hunting rifle. Im probably going to buy a savage mark 2 next year unless I find a good deal on gunpost near me, then ill get it this year lol.

Savage Mk2 is fantastically accurate for the dollar. And it's a Canadian gun, too. Mine shoots almost anything well, it's not too fussy about what it likes. It's a good old standby that always works, always shoots, requires minimal fussing, and can always be counted on.
The American 22 looks really interesting, but I haven't fired one so I'll reserve judgement. But it looks promising.
10/22's fine, just, kinda yawn. Everyone has one. And can be a money pit, too. It's a classic blaster, but you just end up spending all your time loading mags and not really making each shot count.
All depends what interests you. Don't just follow the herd.

10/22. Build yourself a custom if you have a gun buying problem, that way you wont be able to justify buying nicer and nicer ones as you go. I have a grey birch LDR thats awesome but if i were to do it again id get a vblock system so that cleaning the barrel would be a walk in the park. Will probably just end up drilling a hole out of the receiver so i can run my cleaning rod starting from chamber.
One thing i will say, 10/22 jam alot and dont like being run with a dirty chamber. So expect to clean it every 200rds or so if you arent using copper plated bullets. (CCI SV is best for accuracy being subsonic, but the bullet isnt coated so they gunk up quick)

22lr semi autos are pretty safe, especially a riger 10/22.
I personally like a manual action 22lr myself but that's just personal preference. If you want a semi auto, you should definitely get one.

I first bought a Ruger American 22 when I got my pal. Phenomenal gun, accurate up to 300 yards with the right ammo. That being said, last month I sold it and bought a 10/22 (and a .243, and a 30-06. So long savings)

Just get a 10/22 brother. FOC rn has the synthetic and wood stock version for sale for under $400. I also own a Savage Mark 2 in LH and it's a great little Canadian made bolt action 22.
Honestly, you could probably get both for like under $800 if you shop around.

Im slightly further along the same path so figured id chime in, Go for the 10/22. Its my first gun and its been lovely so far for its price. The aftermarket support is amazing, if theres anything at all you dont like about it someone manufactures an alternative.
if they try to ban it owning one helps represent the greater 10/22 community. Our voices are stronger in numbers and safe responsible representation is the best display we could make to either the gov or the public
My vote is to get a 10/22 build it into something kickass be safe and have fun

Savage 64 is a cost effective alternative to the 10/22 You can get one with a scope just north of $200 Where a 10/22 you might be able to find one (no scope) for $400 That being said You’ll be able to sell your 10/22 for what you bought it, 20 years down the road
Don’t let the previous bans effect your firearm wants and needs
The savage 64 also has easy to find 20 round mags for extra fun You have to search high and low to find the ‘legal’ 25 rounders for the 10/22
I got a used savage mark 2, with scope and bipod on gunpost for $200
Just remember the gun cost you’ll only cry over once You’ll end up spending more on ammo that every gun you own
For example my $600 9mm, I’ve spend probably 5k on ammo I’m now reloading for my handguns lol

Depends on what kind of shooting you want to do. Plinking, hunting, long range accuracy.

I think the 10/22 is as ban resistant as you can get. There are so many of them out there. I'm thinking that I'll buy one, just in case they ban new sales but grandfather existing ones.

I myself own a savage mk2 and I love it shoots like a tack I plan to get a MDTS FIELD stock and swap the stock I regret not getting the heavy barrel but it was my first rifle and Cabelas didn’t have any heavy barrel at the time Ive put probably around 6-700 rounds through it cleaned semi regularly but always before a range day and still is a beauty and my favourite rifle to shoot.

Nobody knows what will happen in the future. Dump those mags while u still can
