Shooting Saturdays are for the Range

Asked the son if he wanted to tag a long and we headed off to put some rounds down range. Son had a great time with the S&W 1854 and Taipan.

I tried a 5shot group at 100yards with the Taipan before packing up. I’m sure it can do a hair better properly bagged and setup but we were just ringing steels on a sunny Saturday.

Depends on what you’re looking for. I wanted a fun range rifle that could also be used as a coyote gun if a friend wanted me to tag along.

This was the first above freezing day I’ve had it out and it was cycling properly. I’m not sure if it was the combination of brand new gun and -20*C days, but it had a hard time returning to battery with the spring pressure of the pump. It would hang up pulling a round out of the metal LAR magazines.

We’ve put ~300 rounds down the pipe total now and it was cycling very well yesterday with the same magazines. More accurate than a CZ600 trail based on results I’m seeing with cheap PMC X-Tac ammo.

I wish the pump handle was lower profile and had a battery lockup like a 870 shotgun. Other than that, it’s a damn fine rifle for $1300 shipped.

There’s a Taipan Evo in Australia and it fixed a few little things but I’m not sure if we’re getting them. They have a nicer bolt hold-open setup instead of the awkward one on the TaipanX
