If you are looking for a good outdoor range SPFGA is a good one, they also have a lot of events to try to meet some people at. Good range buddies are always hard to find.

How is the S&W 1854? Thinking about getting one since RangeView Sport has them on sales

I love it I like that it's cheaper than my .45-70 to shoot the most😂

Shit I haven't moved for 8 years and I still have no friends, you'll be okay.

Is that smith Wesson or Marlin? I watched some reviews. People saying the triggers are kind wobbling for SW and Marlin levers.

u/Why_Am_I_Here_1999 Mar 13 '26
S&w the trigger does kinda free float when the hammer is cocked but when I do my first deep clean I'm gonna see about possibly adding a spring.

The range there is ok they are pretty money greedy from my experience so I didn't renew my membership

Nice nice. I'm 1.5 hours east of Calgary. I shoot on a farm and at the range. We should link up and blow up some water jugs together

Liking the lever guns! What do you have there?
2
u/Why_Am_I_Here_1999 Mar 14 '26
Henry.45-70 Marlin 3030 S&w .357
2
u/Geem750 Mar 14 '26
Im currently looking for a black lever in 357 and all of those are on the list. Can you give me a little feedback on the different manufacturers?

u/Why_Am_I_Here_1999 Mar 14 '26
The .357 I have is the Smith &Wesson stealth hunter, so it's definitely not the cheapest out there but it comes factory with the "tacticool" handguard and a flat face trigger it's pretty good no issues with it shoots good groups with PMC 158gr.
My Marlin is pretty dang old it was my Great-Grandfathers deer rifle that I tossed a reflex on because the old fiber optic sight that was on it was Falling apart. So I can't really comment on Marlin as of today's standards but honestly it's Marlin so you can't go wrong.
The Henry is the .45-70 it's my bear gun. Like the post said I'm in Lethbridge and we're gonna go camping this year in the mountains as well as the ol lady has a family trailer up in the Rockies so I decided to grab something to have for grizzlys. I have zero issues with my Henry I love it cycles well shoots straight and with ranger point precision you have all the custom options out there. You're paying a little less for the Henry but it's gonna be your base polymer handguard and stock and it's gonna be pricey to make it look good. I think my handguard was 580 if I remember correctly and the optic mount for that specific handguard was another 60 bucks

Hey i appreciate the insight! With all the photos i thought you had the marlin dark series. Im basically looking to mount an optic, handguard and foregrip. Just dont know if i should go for a quality gun or settle for something like a levtac or canuck. Seems like guys are selling their henrys to fund a marlin or s&w build.

u/Why_Am_I_Here_1999 Mar 14 '26
Nope my Marlin is the old one, if you're just looking at buying pre built then yeah go for the S&W or dark series, but if you don't mind doing a bit of work yourself don't sleep on the Henry they are pretty dang good imo
