Gun and gear reviews Made for Canada Ruger Ranch G2 556
So we finally got one of these in with our order yesterday (its gone already so not trying to sell) and i wanted to point out the mag release and mag for the made in canada versions. Of course its disappointing it doesnt come with an AR mag (which is what held up release of the 556 to canada) but i do have to say compared to the other Rugers we've had in i like the mag release and fit of this style alot more. Sometimes i find on the other gen IIs you really have to slap the mag to get it to click but this one slides in and out and seats nicely.
In hindsight i probably also should have snapped a photo of the duramag that it comes with too before i sold but i didnt.

Is it a proprietary mag ? Are 20rndr or 10rndr be available?

I think its just a 5rd AR mag, idk why ruger would redesign it just for the canadian market.

I think Gravel and Korth came together to place a large enough order that it was reconsidered. At least that is what i was told

Oh interesting, hopefully they’re better than the shitty duramags the gen 1 ranch came with

Only time will tell! Haha but i think with these rifles its important to remember that Ruger is including all the features you'd normally pay 1500-2k for in another brand, all for sub1k so theyre cutting costs somewhere.

I have a gen 1 and you can definitely see where they cheaped out when you take it apart. Luckily, its all pretty easily replaceable if you want, and it still works good on its own.

Don't worry the gen 2 carried over all the lovely very obviously rushed production machining marks and groves from the gen 1 that we know and love! Ever wanted to know how they machine the bolt for a ruger american ranch gen 2? Don't worry, after 2 seconds of looking at the bolt you can tell exactly where they plunged the mill down to mill out the lightening cuts. Even my skses are blushing at the speed and rate in which these things must have been produced

Which parts?

Cocking piece and trigger housing are injection molded metal, the bolt shroud is plastic, the stock is cheap plastic too, the bolt has like no finishing work done to it, you can see the machining marks on the barrel, and everything is held together by roll pins. The action is also fairly very simple too, the whole bolt is just a handful of parts. Its a great gun tho, I’ve had mine for a while and its still doing fine.

I got my 7.62x39 RARg1 from Canadian Tire in the summer. I asked to see the display model, it looked great, nice barrel, everything was fantastic. Then when I said "I'll take it," he went to the back and pulled a different one out from their inventory that had lathe marks all over the barrel and looked like absolute dog shit. I said "Whoa whoa whoa, hold on, I'll take the display gun, thank you." He looked at me like I had pissed in his cheerios or something, but I did end up taking the display model home.
It was so weird to me how good the display model looked versus how bad the random one pulled from the back was. These are new from the factory for fuck's sake, not milsurp. That being said, I have a 5.56 and a 7.62x39 RARg1 and they both outperform their price points handily, so they're doing something right.

The Gen 1 uses standard AR mags. I run my steel pistol and Cross mags in mine and my Press Check 50 Beo works as well as do all my (though IMO they look silly) 5/30 AR mags.

That's too bad they didn't send the AR mag. Mine I received in Dec from IRG came with one. I'm frustrated for you guys, you've been waiting before me!

Either a vortex viper 2-10, a hawke endurance 2-10 or a leupold vx 5hd 2-10 would be my choice for yote spanking.

I have a Gen 1 and it is a damn fine rifle. Action is smooth , fast and solid. Accuracy is amazing with both 55 grain and 69 grain ammo. Since the "improvements" on the Gen 2 are mostly in the cosmetic department IMO I imagine that the Gen 2 is as great as the Gen 1 and is definitely worth getting.

I like my gen 1 as well but it throws cheap 55gr bulk stuff all over the place. Green tip PMC are 1" ish at 100 yards. Put real match ammo like SMK through it and it was cloverleafing off of a bipod.
All I've done to mine is put a lighter trigger spring in it.

I believe so, but not 100% as it lasted like less than 30 mins in the store, i didnt get to play with it much beyond putting it out

Got my Gen 1 solely to use all my 5.56 nato rounds that were meant for my “assault style weapons of war” prohibs. It came with an AR mag. Thinking of getting a Magpul stock to replace the cheapo feeling factor one.

Who’s your distributor? Ours doesn’t even have the 5.56 ranch listed.
