If you are one of the people who does not want to risk legal issues once you are backed into a corner with a prohibited firearm, this is a new way to keep that gun in your safe.

Essentially, SK has it's resident's backs on holding onto your property until the Feds pay you what is fair to take it. And, you are gambling on the Feds ever budgeting for fair payment. That gun can live a bit longer and potentially a lot longer.

Note that he mentioned other provinces contacting them. Reach out to your MLA and CFO to express interest.

I don't think the Feds will do anything about it. Their option now (in SK and any provinces who follow) is fair compensation for guns, accessories, and ammo. They are not going to keep driving the cost up.

They can just tell their voters that Western Premiers are responsible for all the gun violence now. 🤷

Idk this seems like the courts will strike it down. The legislature asks for exceptions from the criminal code both the CC and firearms are federal jurisdiction which is why the buyback is still going on.

The feds won't do anything because they won't have to, the courts will strike it down.

Freberg addresses this. Have a listen.

One will still be complying with the "buyback" by surrendering the gun. You just get to store it for the SK Firearms Office to save money for the province on storage while the SK government seeks fair compensation for your property.

What exception is it asking for?

I listened to Runkle's video on it, and it just seems the Saskatchewan government is asking people to "surrender" their arms to be held by the province, and then the province will ask the owner to store the guns for the province. Unless the feds offer market rates for the entire firearm and accessories, then the owner is compensated, and the firearms are sent to the feds.

The province doesn't seem to be pushing for an exception from the buy back, it's using it's special legal status as a province to hold onto these firearms legally so the feds can't seize them after an arbitrary date.

I emailed the SK firearms office asking if I can apply as someone from Ontario and willing to do what it takes to comply.

I emailed Doug Ford (whatever good that will do) asking if he’ll protect us like Saskatchewan is their citizens.

Let’s hope this starts up a storm, I cannot wait for this long nightmare to end

So basically if all provinces did this then the government would not have the budget for the billions of dollars it would cost to compensate everyone and then what would happen?

Then they just might have to walk the whole mess back. I don't think even grandfathering will save them at this point, because it seems like estates may be able to push the costs onto the Feds eventually anyways.

Not able to listen, and I haven't read anything that clarifies, but are you required to have applied through the ASFCP in order to get a certificate of exception in Sask?

As much as I want to believe this, I have a strong feeling we may be used as pawns.

I'm in AB and worried that all this talk of "we have your back" will be meaningless if the RCMP or whoever comes knocking after the amnesty is over.

Firearm offences are very serious and I can see the federal government coming down hard. Not a chance I want to get a criminal record
