Not what I wanted for Christmas on the matter.

But at least ONE politician is coming out to have the federal government respect it's laws on confiscation (also, plus one for using the proper term) and compensating fair market value.

hope it's not a trick to register your newly prohibited firearms. sudden change in government and they have your info to restart the confiscation program.

Well there is that.

But at least the fact that the matter is about property rights is being raised for the first time.

They will use this emotionally driven and haphazardly done law to "mission creep" their way into internet/computing IDs, mobility pricing and IDs necessary to use currency.

The ground work has been laid for all three so far, they are less than a half step away of introducing that.

There is not fact-based evidence to support these laws.

It’s not the first time property rights has been brought up. The CCFRs Supreme Court challenge was largely based on property rights and the court essentially told Canadian firearm owners to fuck off and we don’t have property rights. Now that paraphrasing quite a bit but it’s what their decision boiled down to.

Word.

That why I like what's happening Herr in sask. In is insane that a provincial government needs to pass a law to force the federal government to comply with basic constitutional rights.

The fact that you mentioned it means it's on many of our minds too and probably them too. So I wouldn't hold my breath on the government. Got NDP's and conservatives crossing over every other day I hear.

I wonder if there’s a way for us in Ontario to get this certificate, I’ll definitely be applying

Doug won't push for it because hes in suburban Toronto.

Doug won't do it because he only goes in the direction the winds point. He has no actual morals or backbone.

16

u/gamercast1337 Mar 12 '26

So hes just like the "pragmatic" liberals

8

u/GuidoOfCanada Mar 12 '26

Also he can't make money from it, so why bother?

3

u/Barbarian_818 Mar 12 '26

He also likes to pretend he is like the Reserve Mayor for Toronto.

Which province is the one they referred to that isn’t on the same page as the others with regard to the confiscation?

Probably QC and BC. Fuckheads are all in on stealing from people it seems.

The chipmunk made it completely clear that the whole thing has nothing to do with actual safety; it's simply to spend a $billion hard earned tax dollars to buy votes in Quebec. If it weren't for Quebec this whole thing wouldn't be an issue

Hello.

I am a firearms owner, outdoors enthusiast, and a citizen of the province in Alberta. Though I don't posses any of the firearms that have recently been designated as 'prohibited' by the federal government, I am still troubled by the persistent actions of the Federal government attempting to unjustly and arbitrarily seize property that was legally acquired in good faith by law-abiding (and federally vetted) private persons across the country.

While I'm certainly opposed to the arbitrary and capricious 'bans' imposed, I'm most opposed to the sudden criminal classification of gun owners (amnesties aside) by a simple stroke of a pen. Adding further insult to the injury of suddenly being a criminal - albeit one that the federal government is generously deferring prosecution of - such gun owners are expected to surrender their property for destruction without any guarantees of fair-market compensation, any avenue for appeals, or any other way to challenge the occasionally irrational classifications of any given item. Under threats of criminal prosecution which have been repeatedly issued by the RCMP no less.

It is therefore with great interest that I follow the recent announcements from the government of Saskatchewan, to strengthen their protections for their constituents. (ref. https://www.ctvnews.ca/regina/article/saskatchewan-to-issue-exemptions-to-owners-of-prohibited-guns/ )

I would like to strongly encourage the province of Alberta - and all other provinces - to adopt similar measures to strengthen their protection of their constituents who are impacted by this unjust action.

Thank you for your attention.

I'd change "occasionally arbitrary" to "frequently arbitrary"

Good on you, but how do people really believe in 2026 with all the illegal political shenanigans going on worldwide and in our own country that this will even be read, or even attempt to move the needle?

2

u/prosper_0 Mar 12 '26

shrug. it only cost me 10 minutes of time.

14

u/Low-HangingFruit Mar 12 '26

Federal judge will 100% use the POGG provision to invalidate this.

u/GinnAdvent Mar 12 '26

Does Saskatchewan government accept orphaned firearm owners from BC too? Lol

I think this is a good option to have given the circumstances. If Canadians want to royally F us over for a false sense of security or for vote pandering in Montreal then they should dam well have to pay FULLY for it.

All of a sudden we are all ok with handing them in once we get fair compensation? This is a big nothing burger. My property is NOT FOR SALE

I think its more of a thorn in the side for those who have registered restricted class rifles. Its already come out that they have been warning people going for renewals that they are aware the person renewing has a restricted prohib (post 2020) and to turn it in or deactivate it to be eligible to renew the license.

So this would mean that your 2k Daniel defence rifle would have to at least be bought back at market value for the whole gun, not this nonsense that they tried in the test run of a few bucks for the lower. And it saves you from getting your door broken down at 4am and the dog shot by thugs.

As for non restricted…… last i heard the smart folks went boating in April of 2020.

u/gwhh Mar 12 '26

Is this good news?

Alberta next!

Seems like a decent compromise for restricted firearms

5

u/Barbarian_818 Mar 12 '26

I don't think any compromise is decent in this case. The Anti-Gun Lobby spent years nibbling away gun rights. (With no appreciable effect on public safety) The gun community responded with very creative ways to work within the restrictions.

This current wave is clearly the Anti-Gun crowd getting fed up trying to play whack-a-mole. Instead they're taking a big swing and trying to just flatten the firearms community in one blow. And somehow they've managed to get a strong enough grip on the Liberal Party to make this plan impossible to drop.

Any compromise would be handing them a partial victory. Look at how pleased they act when announcing the numbers of firearms enrolled so far. (Even though the percentage of the affected number is pathetic) Look at how carefully they phrase it to imply that these firearms are already "off the streets" and making Canada a safer place today even though nothing's been surrendered yet. It's performative.

Bottom line, the firearm community should not compromise because the other side is clearly not negotiating in good faith. The entire campaign is designed to actively hurt law abiding gun owners. I think Soapboxguns made a good point in a recent video, there is a prejudice, a bigotry towards gun owners at work here. Gary has said they do not want gun owners to be able to take government compensation and use it to buy a different firearm. And he specifically called out the SKS as being in their cross hairs.

If the community compromises, they'll be back again next election cycle to take another bite.

In my humble opinion, having this campaign totally and miserably fail isn't enough. It has to have negative political consequences and perhaps even financial consequences for the architects of this plan. The Long Gun Registry failed horribly, but it didn't hurt the people behind it, so now they're back and making a bigger, more ambitious effort.

Right now, this should be an opportunity for the Conservatives to pick up some swing voters, make alliances with the NDP etc. But it's dead set on keeping Poilievere and unpopular stances vis a vis the US. I'm sure that's a factor in the Conservative MPs who are defecting and crossing the aisle.

You put way too much effort into responding to me. I'm not reading all that. I'm sure its well written but I just don't have the time. I'm sure someone will enjoy it though

I am happy I have this option but man what a mccluster this is.

1

u/No-Principle-433 Mar 14 '26

Pardon my lack of legal knowledge; does this statute imply that registration is mandatory, but I am permitted to retain possession of my firearms indefinitely?

-4

u/AlbertaFree16 Mar 12 '26

If you read this, this doesn’t stop them from taking your guns it just retains your right to keep them until you’re offered fair compensation.

This is another back door registry,

14

u/Ok_Persimmon1385 Mar 12 '26

That day will never come where you are offered fair value so basically you keep forever.

13

u/GinnAdvent Mar 12 '26

I don't mind as long it allows me to hold on my guns until they are legal again.

Or the Fed can pay me $90k for all my guns and accessories, lol.

Or cancel this buy back and we will pretend it never ever happened.

Why the downvotes? He’s right
