How does it run/is it a reliable rifle? Been thinking of picking one up n kitting it up, but not sure if it’s worth the tag.

No failures thus far. Have been using PMC Bronze FMJ 55 grain rnds, and have not had any FTE/FTF.
Have only shot at/under 25 yds. Will be going to Silverdale in a few days to see what groups I get at the 50yd range.
It is what it is and I'm having a tonne of fun at the range. If you can stomach the cost, give 'er a go!

How did you get the fox operator upgrades? Did you just purchase and ship from a storefront online or is there an import process? How much did this whole build run you all-in?

Ordered it right on their website. When it came in, I paid a little bit of duties but it wasn't too much (roughly $50).
This whole build, rough cost is roughly 2,300 CAD (alcor .223 + crusader arms Kit + fox operator accessories).
The other accessories I had already from another rifle build that remains in hiding unfortunately.

Beauty. I wanna build a Taipan X and an Alcor with their stuff but was always worried it’d be a head to get.
One question though: why choose the CruArms handguard over the fox operator equivalent?

The crusader arms handguard is aluminum. With something close to a hot barrel, I didn't want to take a chance with 3d printed handguards. I've seen some other users have issues with Tommy Enterprises imprinted handguards and I didn't want to chance it.

The first shroud I've seen that actually looks great on this gun. Love how everything matches the profile of the original rifle. Does the recoil spring go into the buffer tube? If not this would look awesome with a folding zhukov or scar style stock.

You need an extended mag release on there. I drilled and tapped my own for my chimera. Makes it night and day for reloads

That was what I was looking into as well. I wonder if there are any drop in extended mag releases available. Otherwise I'll have to mock one up in autocad and see if I can 3d print one.

Yeah I know of one fellow in aus who has made these since they are different from the usual ar extendeds. Look it up you should find him
You also need to grab some lar15 mags too man I love 10 round dumps in my chimera. Cheers

Hahaha you read my mind!
Already ordered the LAR-15 from high calibre the same day I bought the rifle. I think High Calibre said 6-8 week period for the 10/30 ASC mag.
For now I'm running just the shorty 10rnd and the 5rnd pmags.

The Lockhart Raven uses an extended magazine release. I bet that would be a good drop in

Great setup. Good job. What do you think the weight of it is?
1
u/shapoopshoot Mar 12 '26
Thanks!!
It's a thicc one. I think this weighs more than my safe queen AR..Ill try to find a luggage weigh scale to compare.
The front end feels heavy since the gas system to send the BCG is in the handguard.

Looks good and glad it runs good. I can't bring myself to roll the dice though.

How long did it take fox operator to ship for you? I ordered mine 2 weeks ago and no word yet
1
u/shapoopshoot May 08 '26
What did you order?
The magwel, I ordered on Feb 18, and then got notification that it was shipped out on Feb 24, and then it arrived by March 4
For the buffer tube adapter, I ordered Jan 29, and then it was shipped the same time as the magwel above.

Ordered the mag well and buffertube April 24th no word on shipping yet, could be in just excited and impatient haha! How’re you liking them on the rifle?
1
u/shapoopshoot May 09 '26
They are holding up well! Buffer tube adapter with the Milspec magpul stock, no wiggle. The magwel is great too, easy to reload. The material is great, no issues thus far

That’s just too hard of a cope for me, sorry.

u/BowFella Mar 11 '26
I'd say it's a successful cope. The gun actually looks sweet, ergonomic, and functional.

It looks great but I can't afford more safe queens. I did buy an sks, but I should have bought it a long time ago!

I had* so many nice things, that’s why I can’t do this. If you like to shoot fast, I suggest you get handy with a lever.

I’m not pouting but I’m also not dropping several k on turkshit that’s bound to be banned too. I’ve only ever bought quality firearms and that’s not going to change now. This is just a reminder of how bad things are. There are still many great rifles and shotguns to get out and shoot with.

The way things are going I won't be shedding tears when your "quality" firearms get banned
