As a 10/22, it shot really well and was quite fun since it is much smaller and shorter than my other rifles. The LOP, even with the fixed stock, happens to be perfect for me. There was some stovepiping, but overall it was much more reliable than my Adler RF-224 and more accurate and reliable by than my Pietta PPS-50 too.

I am very impressed with the barrel; it is super accurate for a 9-inch and looks great with the carbon fiber wrap. With the front compensator, the total length is 10.5 inches. However, the front compensator came loose, which is a bit disappointing considering the price of the barrel, but I am sure I can retorque it or resort to blue Loctite. The shorter barrel also gives the gun a lot more oomph than my target 20-inch 10/22 or a stock 18.5-inch 10/22. The barrel is not as lightweight as Volquartsen makes it out to be, however.

I do need a new trigger since the stock one is heavy and my finger got tired after 500 rounds.

The gun fed fine with the SBI 597 adapter, but the 597 ProMags really suck and failed to feed a couple of times due to the follower getting stuck. Hopefully, the ProMags get better with use, but I can already see the plastic chipping.

I used various ammo, including CCI Mini-Mag CPHP 36gr, Winchester 555, Remington Golden Bullet, and CCI Standard Velocity and this particular gun gobbled it all up.

How much $ did you spend all in? How did it compare to your 224 at the range?

It is around $2,000, considering the barrel and chassis are quite expensive. I actually picked up a cheaper Faxon 10.5" barrel, but I did not like the tapered look, so I jumped on the Volquartsen barrel since the bull profile plus compensator look was perfect and saves me the trouble of buying a faux suppressor; plus, I don't see Volquartsen barrels readily available in Canada.

There was also a silver 10" Kidd barrel that I was going to pick up this week at the same store, but it has already been sold; seems like lots of demand of 10/22 gear now that spring is around the corner.

If you want to build a tacti-cool .22 LR rifle, it is much cheaper to get a TM22 Pro or an Adler RF-224.

This build shoots much better than my RF-224 and is much more accurate, but it is roughly triple the price.

The TM22 also shoots very well, but until recently, it was 18.5" and much heavier.

The TM22 Pro makes the rifle shorter, and there are rumors of an 11" model coming soon.

If you want to build a cheaper 10/22-based rifle, you can opt for a polymer stock (e.g., ATI) and either keep the stock barrel or use a cheaper one (SBI, Faxon, Accu-lite, etc.); that should keep costs much more reasonable, probably around the $1,000–$1,500 range. Alternatively, an SBI build is around $1,500 with a SBI 12.5" barrel.

Any issues acquiring the parts or any legal issues you had to consider? I really dig your build and I might get a 10/22 just to build it up now but maybe with a pic stock adapter instead.

But it seems a lot of parts and 10/22s end up out of stock.

The only legal issue is OAL of 26". All parts were sourced in Canada or from TandemKross which imports into Canada.

The stores I ordered from had lots of 10/22 parts, but they were all cleared out over the past few weeks. 😭 In fact, I was going to pick up one more barrel and bolt, but they were snatched up. I guess people are building their spring rifles.

Thanks for the info! I guess there's some seasonality to gun builds? The build ain't gonna be cheap so I don't mind waiting so I can financially recover lol
