Buy recommendations First range day .22 questions

Hey guys,

Went to the range for the first time a few days ago. Shot 200 rounds of CCI mini mag and then another 100 Aguila Interceptors through my Ruger 10/22. Overall it was a blast.

Now I’m looking to grab some bulk ammo for .22. Considering CCI Blazer as they run cheaper then mini mag but I wanna know what you guys prefer? Price, reliability, how dirty it runs, whatever drop your favourites.

Also, anywhere I could get a mag/speed loader for my BX-25 mags in the GTA? Please let me know!

Always so many nice people and staff at Target never have had any issues, looking forward to upgrading my membership from part time to full time

There are lots of good things about Target but also a bunch of bad things.

Good: staff is great. They are sticklers for the rules which is good at a range. They lend out handguns if you have a RPAL and extended membership. It's never too busy to get a lane. I've been going there for over a year, a lot, and have never had to wait for a lane.

Bad: the ventilation and the target systems. They need to spend some money to fix both but that ventilation is the absolute worst. There's a reason regulars and staff wear gas masks.

Yeah a few times have had to push the target systems with the broom to get it to move lol but I haven’t had too many issues with ventilation so far besides one time when a guy was going crazy with his shotgun then it was a bit of an issues although I haven’t been going as long as you have or as much since I’m currently in school and working 30+ hours a week but once the semester is done in April I’m gonna go to full membership. I’ve thought about Barrie as well but that has a wait list and forget Sharon Gun Club not paying 10K+ for a membership

How is memebership there? Im currently a member at 519 but considering switching die to the distance and woth them banning shotguns and caplocks and just bad vibes lol.

Sorry I thought I replied to you already. Staff is great, it's never too busy and you can shoot slugs and 00buck. Only issue I have is their ventilation system

22lr is picky so it really comes down to what your gun likes to run.

In my 10/22, if I'm just cheapo plinking, cci minimag is a good starting point (because mini mag runs well in every semi)

Eley club is another affordable option. Same with SK. S&b match isn't bad either (but God the lot I bought was dirty as hell).

After that if you want to sink cash money, look into Eley match / bench rest / tennex.

The reality is, you'll want to try a various assortment of ammo to see what groups and runs best in your specific rifle.

As for speed loader? I grabbed a MagLula from Tenda and it's saved my thumbs.

Thank you, I appreciate the response. I will surely try out a few different brands of ammo and then purchase in bulk what my rifle shoots best. And as for the maglula from tenda it’s out of stock I will keep my eye out for it. Once again thanks.

Not sure what the stock is like now, I bought mine many years ago.

I've seen a caldwell one at the local shops but I've heard it's complete ass.

If you want to have a real blast get an SBI adapter and run 30 round Remington 597 drums. It is a blast.

Can back up blazer bulk. I've had great luck with them in all actions, just whatever you do, don't get winchester ammo. Unless you want to get really good at clearing malfunctions

I just use whatever is the cheapest with enough velocity to cycle my 10/22. These things are the Toyota Camrys of the gun word. I can do 700 rounds in a single session with maybe one FTF.

I like Norma Tac22 in my 10/22. I rarely have issues and it’s reasonably accurate. A 500 round brick costs $79.99 at my local gun shop.

The old guys at gunstore made me bought Norma Tac22.

Tried 50, cycled well,then bought 1000. Paid 130$ CAD on firearms outlet (with 10$ off code).

I personally really like the Aguila Super Extra bulk stuff. It sometimes goes on sale for near 0.05/Rd (500rd packs for $30 online sometimes). It has been very reliable in my guns, maybe slightly less reliable than CCI, but it is much better then federal blue box stuff. 

I get maybe 1 in 100 FTFs with Aguila bulk stuff, very consistent velocity too for rimfire. Federal I would get anywhere from 3-10 per 100 depending on the box, and CCI I get maybe 0.5-1 per 100rd. I personally just don't find CCI quite worth the extra cost when it runs closer to 0.15/rd at a lot of shops.

Buy the CCI mini mags in bulk when they go on sale at Tenda. Get a full case for dirt cheap.

After trying them all, including in the ruger 10/22 - the only other ammo I now run is the federal blue box bulk 525 copper hollow points. Cheaper than mini mag.

Aguila for me, high velocity in the bolt action is more precise and standard velocity on the semi auto (savage 64, and mark ii) I got 2000 rounds from gotenda.com for $150 They also have a flat rate of $25 for shipping They have an entire BULK AMMO section Otherwise if I’m willing to spend the money, CCI STANDARD VELOCITY is top notch for precision grouse hunting Happy shooting!

Not that I know much but from my limited experience i think Aguila runs dirtier than cci i have yet to experience with federal or other brands. Thank you though.

I’ll agree with that But all 22lr is dirty, they use cellulose as filler and maybe 70-75% of the powder is burnt up in shooting them. Running a semi auto you’d expect to maybe get 500rnds before needing a full take down and deep clean but that’s standard for most all 22lr semis. On the side of affordability I lean towards the Mexican made ammo, Aguila. It runs 100% reliability. Cci, while cleaner, is more expensive and I’ve had (very few, but more than zero) light primer strikes/misfires

Ah yes I experienced this also in the 200 rounds of cci mini mag I put through I had one that didn’t go off. Left me very confused for a moment lol.
