Shitpost / Memes Is this qualifying as an antique?

Post image

Im dead serious, obliviously can't buy one but I'm really wondering if that's technically the only full automatic gun legal in Canada

There are fully automatic guns that are legal, just not for us. Museums, movie armorers, manufacturers.. This one, if it isn't deactivated, is under a museum's license.

Never thought about it but some people out there do lol, and the 5-10 round mags that they have for them makes for 0.3 seconds of absolute madness!

Magazine capacity restrictions do not apply to full automatic firearms (unless the magazines are interchangeable with a semi-auto). It's only applies to Centerfire semi-automatic rifles/handguns, rimfire handguns, believe it or not.

Belt feed semi-auto long guns are also not limited if the belt was manufactured before 1945. So basically, a semi-auto Browning, MG34, MG42 can have no capacity limit if the feeding belt is original/predates 1945.

The logic is that if you can possess a full-auto, having a 30-round magazine is the least of the government's worries.

Perhaps not but a true Gatling is crank-operated so it should be considered a manual action and therefore not have any magazine capacity rules

The people who wrote the law are ignorant, but not to the point of not knowing about hand cranks. Any Gatling is a prohib.

Do you have a source for that? Any time I've looked into it, it's been a big grey area because no one's put the effort into acquiring a proper Gatling

I'd have to look it up to give you the actual wording of the law,, but any device that makes a gun functionally full auto is a prohibited device itself. That's why we don't have clamp-on hand or electric cranks, bump stocks or FRTs.

Well, I took a look at the law, and there is a detail I had forgotten about. The law clearly states that it applies to devices that would speed up the firing rate of semi-automatic firearms, so I was wrong.

In the end what kills the antique eligibility is, as stated by BigRedGunNut, the magazine. The law states that an antique is

"A rifle manufactured before 1898 that is capable of discharging centre-fire cartridges, whether with a smooth or rifled bore, having a bore diameter of 8.3 mm or greater, measured from land to land in the case of a rifled bore, with the exception of a repeating firearm fed by any type of cartridge magazine."

Still, a true old-fashioned Gatling, antique or newly made, should be non-restricted according to the law.

OG gattling guns are not full auto. The crank is just pulling the trigger on 10 different semi auto actions in a row.

It's a magazine fed rifle, so no, not antique.

No it doesn't qualify as an antique.

:(

And to think the gangs of Toronto are rolling these down the streets and opening fire

2

u/BadluckyKamy Mar 08 '26

A Gatling towed by a g wagen would look gangster as fuck

2

u/sardaukarqc Mar 08 '26

No. The hand crank makes it a prohib.
