The Fédération Québécoise de Tir (FQT) has launched a petition to the House of Commons and, after a minor modification to meet official requirements, it has been approved and is now officially online.
This petition, initiated by Mr. Mario Racine, FQT administrator and President of the Armed Professionals sector, and supported by the FQT, has just been published. Your participation is essential.
ORIGINAL PETITION TEXT (This text had to be slightly modified to meet the requirements of the House of Commons)
We acknowledge that the buyback program aims to address legitimate public safety concerns. However, this approach remains symbolic and does not tackle the root causes of violence in Canada.
The government is spending millions to buy back firearms legally owned by responsible citizens. Yet the real source of violence is people in mental distress, not the weapons themselves. Furthermore, firearms used in serious crimes almost always come from the black market.
This petition therefore calls on the Government of Canada to end the legal firearms buyback program and redirect those funds toward concrete mental health services, including:
Support for community organizations,
Psychiatric care,
Resources for people experiencing homelessness.
Investing in mental health will make it possible to:
Intervene before a situation becomes tragic,
Support people in distress and their loved ones,
And strengthen safety in our communities.
TEXT REMOVED, BUT STILL VALID FOR US:
The Fédération Québécoise de Tir (FQT) is taking concrete action to support mental health by donating $25,000 to the organization CAP SANTÉ MENTALE / RÉSEAU AVANT DE CRAQUER. In addition, a discretionary amount will be added for each signature collected.
It is high time we stopped wasting our hard-earned money. Every dollar must serve real priorities: mental health, support for seniors, assistance for vulnerable people — not buying and destroying firearms. As long as these fundamental needs continue to be ignored, violence will keep striking our communities.
It is time to act as responsible leaders!
We invite all members of shooting clubs in Quebec as well as all citizens of Canada to support this initiative and demand that the government put an end to the buyback program and act where it truly matters.`

Not to be a Debbie Downer but the last petition I signed was to cancel the OIC's iirc, and it just so happened to get the most amount of signatures in the history of parliamentary petitions......and then they promptly ignored it like all of the other petitions
If they were never going to listen to the actual experts when they told them it was never going to work then they certainly aren't going to care about your opinion
Mass none compliance is the only way we make it through this

It was the highest amount of signatures at the time, but there have been many since then, so as you have indicated, the statement is no longer true.

This petition's goal is to end the compensation portion but makes no mention of cancelling the confiscation or prohibition portions. For that reason, I'm out.

I had the same thoughts, but the optics of scrapping the compensation and truly rendering it confiscation will make this a bigger property rights issue while keeping the policy in the spotlight, which can only be good things.
Obviously non-compliance adds to this...

I'm not so sure. The Supreme Court has never been in our favour. There's like what, 2 million guns affected by this ban? And the government has only set aside like $250k for the actual compensation portion of the budget. Which they even said themselves will hopefully get 136,000 guns. If the supreme court cared about property rights they would have ruled on that alone. Didn't the CCFR already try a court challenge using the property rights excuse?

That is also my thought. They could easily look at this and be like "you know what, sure" (for once) and end the compensation program.
But keep the amnesty ending at Oct 31 and then have to surrender everything with zero compensation anyway.
The entire thing is a farce but there shouldn't be any half measure here. End this entire program and undo the OICs.

I'm very glad to see this is being done, but how many petitions, court challenges, police forces, provinces speaking out, basically every single big "stop" sign to the government, and yet they're still pushing ahead, even after a change in leader, who could have easily ditched it. But Carney is a globalist who doesn't want those dirty, common folk peasants armed.
It is genuinely hard to comprehend why they're doing this, when literally EVERYONE outside of Poly is telling them it's a waste of time, money and resources.
I'm starting to think literally the ONLY person in this country who actually believes in this, is Nathalie Provost and her Poly goblins.
It will be undone eventually, but the LPC is hell bent on it apparently, still. They've ran past every red flag and just kept going.

I've signed a bunch of these petitions over the years. The government is required to address them. Every time, one of two things has happened.
1: The liberals read the title, say "Lol, get fucked", and move on to the next topic
2: Absolutely nothing. They don't even respond in writing. The rules don't apply to them.

I know it won't amount to much, but gotta do as much as we can.
It's like the bombarding MPs with letters three yrs ago. Gotta let people know that it's literally just waste of tax payers dollars and there are other better project in Canadian communities that the money should address to.

Eby has done nothing except bend over to everyone. He does not respond to emails either. The OIC should be undone and everything restored to that point, then sensible policies on illegal guns created, not knee jerk reactions because RCMP dropped the ball

The buy back isn't the problem it's the prohibition that's the problem. This is a poorly articulated petition because it only asks the gov't to not pay, and doesn't address the underlying prohibition.
"We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon theGovernment of Canada to end the gun buyback program and redirect funds to..."
Nothing in there about reversing the prohibitions.
