First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Tumbler Ridge got memory holed in record time. Worst school shooting in our history and the gov has been tight lipped. Wonder why? Are they scared to admit that no amount of arbitrary firearms prohibitions can prevent a sick and delusional wierdo from killing people en masse?

I suspect the optics behind the firearms aren't great either. It basically spits in the face of the system they're pushing so hard.

I'm sure they'll use it again years down the road as justification for SOMETHING but it looks like they're trying their best to ignore it. Even the RCMP have been super tight lipped.

Has it been confirmed what firearms the shooter used?

We have prioritized the analysis of the two firearms (long gun and a rifle that had been modified) seized from the school and two firearms, including a shotgun, seized among a number of other firearms, at the residence. The shotgun is believed to be involved the homicides at the home and has never been previously seized by police. Our investigation has also determined the main firearm believed to be used in the mass shooting at the school has never been seized by the RCMP and its origin is unknown. Efforts continue to identify the owners and source of all other firearms.

The last update was Feb 13 2026 on the RCMP site which is supposed to publish details involving it. Aka it's in the memory hole now. They first thought it was a pistol so I'm guessing the officers on scene misidentified the vector (a weapon that's already prohibited). But also I could be wrong because you'd think that public safety would've been screaming about it if a prohib was used.

Don’t forget it came out the brother of the shooter was out on bail for attempted murder and had prior weapons/firearms charges. It may not be related but it could also be the firearms used in the school originated from the black market through the brother. The secrecy leads me to believe the optics don’t fit their agenda or else like you say, it would be front and centre right now.

Quite possible, which would explain why they're going down the blame AI route. If that actually is the case, it undermines the entire messaging the Liberals have been capitalizing on for the past 6 years. I hope we get some more insight soon.

I mean, it literally didn’t stop them from running with it in 2020 when the Nova Scotia massacre happened. That guy was a know shitbag, and smuggled his firearms from Maine but it didn’t make a crumb of difference.

The only thing I can see is that they want to avoid repeating what happened during the aftermath of the Nova Scotia incident. That was such a political gong show you wouldn’t see the likes of if you went upstairs and came down again.

At that time they already had a new gun ban plan and just needed a tragedy to use as a spring board. Now that plan has been running and failing for nearly 6 years. They don't have some new inventive plan ready to go so they aren't making a big deal out of this.

It's also key timing for the media to try to push that with their internet bill being run through the house (Online harms oh boy).

They don't have a good framing to push C21 amendments or the buyback/confiscation with this current tragedy so they're shifting the goal posts as per usual. It's like how they tried to tie Ukraine into the buyback.

Shameless honestly.

No amount of verification or control would've stopped this.
