Shooting Last day of rabbit season with the Stevens
Weather was milder in Southern Ontario and I hadn't taken this gun out in a few years. Nice to have lighter gun to carry even without a sling. No rabbits around though but glad I got out.

I didn't realize Ontario had a Rabbit season. Manitoba it's just a free for all on Rabbits and Grey Squirrels
"Licences are not required to hunt small mammals such as hares, rabbits and gray squirrels. These species may be hunted on any day"

Nope not in Southern Ontario. Squirrels go from late September to December 31st. Rabbits start the same as squirrels but end on February 28th/29th.

Yeah slippery! I didn’t find any rabbits either, there were tracks and poop by the one gas line cut back in December but not on Saturday.
I saw a bunch of turkey tracks up there though FYI.

Yea I saw a hen run into the bushes on the main trail there a couple years ago. Tried Fall turkey hunting once in that area but I saw nothing.

Fall turkey is tough, you need good info on their exact location and movement patterns to even have a chance. Spring is where it’s at, 25x more turkeys taken in the spring season.

I'm not sure how that area is for spring turkey tbh.....I might get permission to hunt private land this spring for turkey but if that falls through then I'll put out a trail cam there

I think it’s a popular enough spot so you’d have to do some scouting and be there on opening day. Might be a little sketchy if there’s a lot of folks out.
I have permission to hunt on a property where’s there’s definitely turkeys but it’s two hours from here so closer spots are interesting to me.

Last few years the rabbit count has been crappy. I think the combo of weather and more coyotes are making them more hard to get.

Yea haven't seen a rabbit in these areas for over 2 years. I think it's also that there's too many people hunting the limited areas of public/crown land in Southern Ontario.

I wish squirrel season ran until the end of rabbits.
