Gun and gear reviews YouTube- More info on the Sterling RL9. Not going to be made in Canada :( Being tested here though Apparently. Est $1200 USD

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5hPCIW07DIw&pp=ugUHEgVlbi1VUw%3D%3D

A bit more info on the glock lever action. Price is a bit high, but if this ends up being properly modular and allows multiple calibers, it could be sweet! Excited for it to exist as an option, at very least. Looks like releasing before the end of 2026, and Interestingly is being tested at some Canadian gun range? Wish they would let us know which one so we could try it out!

Though James from TFB looks to have no interest in this gun, and almost feels like he can't wait to carry on the the next booth. Just an observation.

in my experience the ugly guns can shoot pretty well

Just put a paper bag on it, or turn off the lights or something and it'll be fine. /s

I’d rather have a pump action 9mm

Looking at the Deyra pump  action?

For the price,  I'm probably going for the pump too

Hoping they get here soon.

I'm impatiently waiting for the Derya 9mm. Hope it turns out to be reliable.

I hope so too. I haven't actually seen anything about them bringing them in to Canada,  just that  they exist.

My dilemma is the Bolt vs the pump.

Both look to have 12 inch barrels, the bolt action looks nicer but the pump would be much quicker to shoot and I don't have a pump action rifle.

The pump model will be available Q3 of this year. I can't find the source, but the founder of the FB TM22 page has checked into this.

Oh wow! Thank you for the good news! I was afraid it would still be years

Why not just buy a 9mm Homesteader for about the same price as the Derya pump will be? Homesteader is semi, takes 10rd Glock mags, and has a bit of aftermarket. Midwest Industries makes a nice aluminum Mlok handguard for them and a skeletonized stock, and Tommy Enterprises makes some handguards and a pistol grip/AR buffer adapter too. The Homesteader is a great little rifle. While my first choice probably would have been a PC9, even if this was the world pre-bans, I would not have been disappointed or unhappy with the Homesteader. Homesteader and SKS are like the sole survivors of "good old days" type guns. The pump 9mm seems cool and will certainly be safe from any chance of bans, but buy the Homesteader while you can just incase!

It would be just to have a shorter  more compact rifle honestly.

I'd get the Homesteader and leave it in it'd pretty wood honestly. I can see a usage for both  though. Fun  full length semi auto, and a fun short pump action

That's a good point, I think if the 9mm was pump it could have a 12 or even 9" barrel and remain NR. That is actually a pretty valid point.

I did see some surplus 9mm bolt actions up for sale recently, I think ex Italian police guns, a few shops had them up for I think $600. Originally chambered for 9x21 I think but were rechambered to 9x19. Still longer barrel though, they were 16 or 18" if I recall correctly.

Wow! Where did you see these??? That sounds like such a cool gun!

I'd be so pissed if I bought the Homesteader and then it got banned. The thought of $1400 sitting in the safe, when I could have spent it on a 9mm pump and some ammo gets my blood pressure up. Also, I like manually operated actions. I also have a sports car with a 5 speed manual transmission so maybe there's a connection. 😁

I want a AR style pump action

No, you don't.

Could you make one out of a Troy PAR, or any of the other straight-pulls on the market, with 100% off the shelf parts?

Yes, trivially. Others have already done it. You need a Glock magazine adapter.

Then, for 9mm, you need a 5.45x39mm bolt (which has the correct bolt face dimension for this conversion), and a 9mm barrel with a standard barrel extension on it (hint: there's only one company that makes this). For .40 S&W, same thing, but you need a 6.8 SPC bolt (.30 Remington is the parent cartridge) instead.

Why haven't you, or anyone else, done it yet? Because the Homesteader's half the price and semi-auto, the SKS is a third the price and semi-auto, you actually have to know how the gun works to do this, and you don't even get any additional magazine capacity for your trouble.

Pump action rifles suck. Your muzzle goes all over the place from racking and you can't shoot prone.

Call me old fashioned but pump just feels wrong for anything other than a shotgun

4

u/Iokua_CDN Mar 01 '26

I'd argue that it's the Old fashion guns that were pump  action  rifles.

I believe there was a few pump action rifles made back in the day that aren't available now

Winchestor model 1890 Remington 760/7600

Couple other old 22 pump actions

u/mischling2543 Mar 01 '26

Yeah I know my grand dad has an old pump action .22 but they still just seem weird to me. Now a lever action 9mm? That I could definitely get behind.

u/NewWatchTime Mar 01 '26

Still feels wrong

I have a Remington 7600 carbine and it’s a beauty. They call them the Amish/Mennonite machine guns with how quickly you can get rounds off.

Man made horrors beyond our comprehension

u/theubu Mar 01 '26

I don’t get it

James has been quite a prick in the past couple videos. Just because he doesn't like the guns or see a need he doesn't have to give so much attitude.

11

u/Iokua_CDN Mar 01 '26

Kinda noticing that too... maybe just a personal problem or something?

9

u/dgod40 Mar 01 '26

He's just being mocking and dismissive towards the weird guns that are being made for us poor Canadians. Why even make the video then?

3

u/HaloReachEnjoyer9 Mar 01 '26

I didn’t think he was mocking just making some jokes, that’s his style.

3

u/FedInformant Mar 01 '26

I didn't notice attitude really? Just the jab about using glock mags. But if you were making a lever action in 9mm, what other mags would you use ?

3

u/waitwhatnothing Mar 01 '26

You see the same attitude from other folks. An SMG mag is pretty much always better than a pistol mags in a PCC since they are double stack/double feed and are either straight or angled forwards which makes for better mag changes. In Canada with the legal distinction between pistol mags and rifle mags the pistol mag with 10rds capacity is the better choice.

2

u/FedInformant Mar 01 '26

Ahhh I see what your saying. Good point

1

u/Q-Ball7 In the end, it's taxes all the way down Mar 01 '26

since they are double stack/double feed

Forgotten Weapons thinks this is important, and in a military context it can be (especially when your mags are full of sand and mud), but Glock magazines are good enough for this to be irrelevant (conversely, Sten mags are uniquely bad, and Sterling mags were over-engineered partially because of that).

and are either straight or angled forwards which makes for better mag changes

Well, not necessarily. There are 2 things that makes double stack/double feed magazines easier to change: they're physically larger, which means your hand has more grip on the mag (needed to fight spring tension), and to make a double stack/single feed magazine reliable, you have to have very high spring tension (which is part of the reason Glock magazines are reliable), which makes inserting them difficult. This is part of why MEAN Arms makes its 9mm SMG magazines that way.

A hidden consequence of this is that, for manual-action rifles, it becomes more difficult to strip the top round of the magazine (you don't notice this in semi-autos because the mechanism does it for you, of course). And yes, there are ways to obviate this problem (use a constant-force spring like Torkmag does), but that's expensive so nobody does it.

1

u/waitwhatnothing Mar 01 '26

Double feed mags are easier to load too.

When I said easier mag changes what I meant mostly is the angle of insertion. A glock mag inserts at the angle it does because that’s necessary for a pistol with the magazine inside the grip, it’s not ideal for a PCC.

i have several turkish shotguns and i dont have 1/100th the amount of issues with him he seems to has.

3

u/FedInformant Mar 01 '26

I hope it works out well for him. Happy to see them adapt, and move down to the states where they can actually function as a buisness. Hopefully we see it in 5.56. I think modern levers are going to take over the market

2

u/DrZoidburger89 Mar 01 '26

Much larger than the prototype shown last year.

1

u/Iokua_CDN Mar 01 '26

I think just a longer barrel,  which would make sense for American market.

The prototype I remember being like 12 inch barrel

u/Remote_Mistake6291 Mar 01 '26

I will definitely buy one if they become available.
