Fix my gun Spends $3500 on a rifle…

Went to shoot my new 307 today. Nope. Weatherby put a short action spring and mechanism in my 7prc magnum bolt. I don’t know how this even happened. Gotta send it back now. Sad Friday…

I think basically every manufacturer does this as they have to proof test the barrel, so clearly Weatherby skipped a major part of the QC and safety testing of a rifle. 

I actually had a guy complain recently when I sold an unfired rifle, he messaged me claiming there was copper fouling in the bore, so some manufacturers seem to put several rounds at least down the barrel before sending them out.

Henry fired my .45 LC. Scratched the surface of the magazine cover, left carbon everywhere in the action.

Rest of the manufacturers I buy from at least clean it after firing. I honestly thought it was the store that did it. Had to research before I lodged a complaint.

I get proofing that the rifle is safe, but at least clean it a bit or leave a notice in the box that the rifle has been fired & some carbon or brass flakes, and slight wear on the magazine cover may be left.

People have no idea how much it costs to do all this BS they think should be done. And then complain something costs too much. People have no idea the raw material, input costs, overhead etc that goes into making something.

That's like not testing a car before putting it on a lot for sale. The car needs to do its basic functions before being sold, much like a gun, otherwise it's worthless. I've never heard of a firearms manufacturer that doesn't test their products before shipping. This is a terrible mistake on their part. No one is asking for crazy tests. It doesn't take much to run 3-5 rounds through your product.

I’m talking about the extra cleaning after a few rounds of test firing. The cleaning is unnecessary

Oh I understand that it costs a lot to manufacture, then adjusting costs to import, plus skyrocketing inflation.

All I am saying is, if someone is laying down $1300 (starting rate for a standard bolt action in Canada), the last thing they expect to find is marred product because of QC/Safety without an explanation.

Prices are different in the States. Say in the States you want to buy a precision rifle that you built yourself. You find the parts, put it all together. Trigger, bottom metal, action, barrel, chassis, magazines - say this costs you $2000.

Us in Canada, that would cost closer to $5-6k. If you can even find what you are looking for.

Glenfield model a is around $699 that’s closer to staring rate. Also MDT products are generally cheaper in Canada with the current conversion rates. You don’t really pay all that much more compared to a similar build in the US, especially if you use Canadian components.
