I think there's more to this story nobody is telling us. The intruder and the homeowner apparently knew each other, as this was initially reported. Also Lindsey is a tiny town in the middle of nowhere, it's not the type of place with random break-ins.

Unfortunately we'll never know what actually happened. The fact that the homeowner never came forward to defend his position publicly tells me he wants this to stay quiet. That's strange.
