BCL MRX mags in Renegade

As title suggests:

I bought some mags, but encountering the following:

• bolt will not go forward
• extremely tight in mag well

After comparing to pmags, it seems the spine of the MRX mag is higher.

Is it legal to mod these mags? Anyone have experience making this work?

"Overcapacity" magazines are prohibited devices, and modifying a magazine is considered to be manufacturing; therefor modifying an MRX magazine to fit a rifle is manufacturing a prohibited device. On the other hand, manufacturing a non-restricted firearm for personal use doesn't require any special license; so you can modify an NR semi-auto rifle to feed from MRX magazines because the magazines are still considered to be intended for a manual action rifle.

If I’m not mistaken, I thought self-manufactured firearms (aside from parts kits and the like) even for personal use was reclassified under the “ghost guns” clause when Trudeau redefined firearm terminology just after the handgun freeze?

Because before you’re right, as long as you had that class of license (aside from prohibited), you could manufacture your own stuff. But now I thought it was a grey area?

Could be. I see the parliamentary committee notes wherein they talk about ghost guns, but I don't see any actual changes to sec.99 of the Code or the Firearms Act

Edit: I found the changes; they added to the Firearms Act in sec.102, making it an offence to access, possess, distribute, or make available computer data related to the manufacture of firearms; with examples being 3D printing files or milling machine code

Nothing on using hand tools to modify an existing firearm that I can see

Modifying an existing firearm is still legal (I made a post about a job I did awhile ago). It was the build-from-scratch approach I thought was illegal thanks to Trudeau (which is super bunk because I’d love to take a stab at crafting a legal firearm for personal use)

But there is no laws that would restrict utilizing an “over capacity” mag if it fits, in a manual action rifle?

I’ve seen people use these mags in the renegade - just curious about experience!

You can use a factory magazine in whatever firearm it happens to fit in, the capacity limit is based on whatever the RCMP decide the magazine is designed for. For example using 10 round pistol magazines in semi-auto rifles, or the RCMP retroactively deciding that all 10/22 mags are designed for the Charger pistol and therefor limited to 10 rounds

But for illustration let's say it's a couple years ago and you have an non-restricted AR180. Modifying the rifle to fit the 20-rounds MRX magazine is fine, because you can manufacture NR rifles for personal use with just a PAL, and you don't need to register the changes. But modifying an MRX magazine to fit the rifle is considered manufacturing a prohibited 20-round magazine for the AR180

So in theory you could modify the MRX magazine to fit a different manual action rifle without issue, but if it also happens to fit a semi-auto you'd probably have a court case on your hands
