New gun owner visual guide

Visual gunowners guide. For people with short attention spans that only look at pretty pictures. 

This is a follow up component to my earlier new gun owners guide.

This is to showcase what a new gun owner needs at the minimum.

1. Overall picture, all a fresh new gun owner needs. 
2. Hearing protection, and eye protection. Howard leight, and pyramex eye protection. (I actually keep mine in the car as I drive everywhere, and I never want to forget them. This is just my backup pair I keep in the house) The howard leights are expensive now and there are a lot better and cheaper models on the market but roughly $100, eye protection $25. 
3. Trigger lock, not necessary for transport but meets the Non-restricted requirements for storage at home. I do recommend a security cabinet but this is just the minimum required. $16
4. Cleaning kit (Proshot universal cleaning kit $80) 
5. Cleaning kit, CLP, rods, brushes, patches, everything a new gunowner needs.)
6. Staple Gun, extra staples (Arrow Light duty staple gun $25, JT21 staples $7
7. Shoot n See targets (50 targets/$50)
8. Ruger 10/22 with case. (Ruger 10/22 M1 carbine edition, $640, Ruger flagstaff 10/22 case $65)
9. Ruger 10/22 with case. 
10. Box of 22lr ammo (Blazer 525 pack $48)
11. Toolbox, (range bag) carries my registration papers, range membership, ammo, and odds and ends. (Mastercraft toolbox $80) 

Total Cost: $1136 for everything in the picture. Or $496 for everything else that wasn’t the gun as you can choose your own.

2 things you can do to make it cheaper if you want to. 1) print your own targets. Even cheaper if you can print them at work. 2) ditch the tool box, toss it in any old bag or backpack.

Yeah I didn't realize how expensive tool boxes have gotten, I got mine 15 years ago for $20. But you don't need a super tactical bag to hold stuff.

Like you said a bag or backpack could work especially if you don't load it up with ammo. The only downside is light weight bags can't handle carrying too much ammo which is why I like my tool box. But considering getting a range specific bag.

My preferred targets are a piece of printer paper with one or more Xs put on them with a marker.

The new free printable magdump targets are pretty cool. Cost a bit more in ink, though.

AND - can't stress this enough - up to date First Aid Training (tourniquet training would be smart too, most standard first aid courses don't include that where I'm from)

Yup, the intent was to have a more visual guide on what you need to shoot. As a follow up component of my text based guide.

Pricing it out it only is about $500 to get started besides the gun.

IMO bore snakes and a can of clp is better, especially for beginners. Less chance of screwing up the crown with the steel cleaning rods

Oh wow, yeah I’ve noticed mine is dirty but the bore seemed pretty clean afterwards so I didn’t really worry about it. As it is I don’t clean my guns much (with the exception of shooting corrosive of course)

I would also personally recommend a bore snake. Sure you can clean with a rod and patches. But if you're not using your guns a lot and only firing a box as a time, bore snakes are great.

I don't always bring my staple gun to the range, but when I do, I forget to put staples in it.

Which kit? But i bought the cleaning kit from my local gun store 9 years ago.

Or if talking about the 10/22 this is the ruger talos m1 carbine edition i bought about 5 years ago from prophet river.

Oh sorry. I meant for the Ruger. The stock to “convert” it I guess. Immediately hopped on Google and found a place in the US that sells them.

All you need is a bore snake, CLP and an oil rag unless youre shooting competition or just extremely anal about cleaning your rifles.
