I also have the cz457 and the maverick 88. I’m very happy with both. The mossberg was my first purchase and a very satisfying one. The Cz surprised a friend of mine with its accuracy enough for him to pick up a .22lr riffle the next weekend.

I initially intended to get the synthetic because it's cheaper, and I was thinking about putting it in a nice Woox chassis eventually, but after giving it some thought, I may go with a nice walnut stock, and keep it as is. I'll probably want to buy a bunch more guns and accessories and ammo before I think about importing a $1000 chassis..

I don't know, I'm on the fence. Synthetic is approximately $200 cheaper, and it doesn't look bad, but walnut is pretty sweet too... 🤔

MDT makes chassis for the 457, won’t cost you a grand and it’s a Canadian product. If you are looking for laminate or solid wood, Boyd’s gun stocks in US are also pretty good.

Woox is from North Carolina, and they make modern wood chassis that have adjustable combs and butt pads, and M-lok in the hand guard etc.. They're beautiful. The Exactus Model is like the perfect blend of tradition, and modern styling for me.. It's like 700 US though.. Thanks. I'll look at those before I pull the trigger on anything.

Yeah, I have heard about them, never seen one before though, aside on their website, but Boyd’s has a vast selection of stocks. They even make AR-15 furniture, which unfortunately can’t be imported, if I am not wrong. But yeah, hope you find something that will make you happy, regardless of the price.

I was just looking at the CZ457 At One. It looks almost as nice as a Woox 457 I've seen, and it comes with a match barrel, in a Boyd's chassis. Looks real nice and at about $1350, it's still cheaper than buying a standard CZ457 and buying a Woox chassis separately..

The kind of rifle you pass down to the grandkids.

I have an At One stock for a 10/22. They are nice stocks, especially the At One as you can adjust comb height and length of pull. I have ordered two Boyd’s stock a year ago, my suggestion is if you can find someone to order another stock and split the shipping costs, as that would make it more convenient. If I remember correctly it wasn’t a lot more expensive to ship two stocks vs one. One more thing with Boyd’s stocks, you will likely need to do some inletting, so sand and possibly glass bedding the action. On their website they sell the bedding compound. Let me know if you ever would like to see some pics. I have an At One (10/22) as well as at the Agility (CZ455). I actually regret getting the gloss finish on the Agility as it costed me an extra USD29 and didn’t like the look (personal preference).

I bought the synthetic and it feels great. But I did eventually switch it to the walnut stock from a 457 Varmint. They’re both great so I think you’ll enjoy it no matter which configuration you choose.

If you have a friend who has their PAL, have them buy it for you and keep it with them until you actually receive yours

Unfortunately I don't. I went into this alone. I'm 36, always liked shooting, always wanted to get my PAL but I never made it a priority. I was always too busy or whatever.

This spring I took out a big groundhog that was fuckin up my fence line with my .22 air rifle and a zinc "penetrator" pellet. He died, but it wasn't pretty. Smoked him in the side of the head at 10-15 yards and he flopped and twitched and ran off all fucked up and started doing the funky chicken.

I scheduled my course that day. My wife insisted as well.. Wish I had done this 15 years ago..

First day with my PAL I'm grabbing a CZ457 and a crate of .22. and probably a Maverick 88 for good measure.

Contact your MP asap. Don't wait. The RCMP estimates it should take 45 days from submitting to receiving the card. I will be so far up everybody's ass on day 46 you don't even know. Fuck they'll send me 10 cards just to get rid of me. 😁

I've been calling almost monthly and get told there isn't anything else they can do. I checked one of the forbidden checkboxes (mental health issue in the past), so I get screwed over. 8 months isn't an uncommon wait for this sort of thing I hear.

Get ready for a ride. I also checked the box and I just got my license last week after 2 years. This was a renewal and I had to go through every hoop to get it. MP, Ombudsman and a Lawyer.

The RCMP says that the approximate ETA on a license is 45 days from application, unless there are any issues with your application, or they find things in your background they want to get a closer look at.

So after 45 days, you should call the CFO to see what's the hold up. If nothing's moving for weeks after that, you should talk to your local MP.

Some people have gotten them within a couple months. Some people wait 2 years. Squeaky wheel gets the grease though. And if not, at least you tried everything. That's my thinking..

Get someone with a pal to pick it up for you and when your pal comes In just buy it back off them, it’s completely legal and if another list comes out you won’t have missed out

I'm going to call in the new year. It's only been 45 days as of December 24th. Which is the ETA from submission to receiving the card. On day 46 I will be their worst nightmare. Lol no way I'm gonna be one of those 20 month waiting stories. I hope....

About 5 years ago RU were 450 and CN were 350

I picked up a heavily refurbished but serviceable Chinese SKS from Cabela's during Covid for $149.  Not an attractive example of the rifle type but shoots just fine!

Sub $500 for an unissued SKS is still a steal in my opinion though.

I consider myself lucky...  Russian sks for 225 in 2020... I think it was a used trade in to their gun library.  Which meant no cleaning cosmoline.

I almost didn't get it, being a young poor gun owner, but my father in law really emphasized that it was a really really good deal. I'm so happy I listened,  that old gun is still one of my favourites to shoot

That's what really brought my wife around to my hording. She's a PAL holder, owns a really glitzy lightweight 6.5 creed boltgun, but was hating on my collection random fun guns until I showed her how my new shotgun was 35-50% more on GP than I just bought it for. Ain't nothing making those one day gains other than scamming people on used cars or crypto fraud.

6 months to a year from now and I could very much see their price dipping back down again, at 500-600 they're still the go to "cheap centerfire semi", but once there's more options back on the market old surplus like these are likely to drop

Bought a 1301 Mod 2 a month ago from them. $1699! LGS has them for $2100, GP scalpers want $2100-$2500 for a used second gen lol. Cabelas can get silly sometimes. I ain't complaining but why offer a brand new version of a super popular gun for 25% off right when it comes out?

Sorry I just got my pal and had a couple questions on these. I heard you really have to clean these when you get these do something called Cosmoline. Is this something I whould be a able to do at the range? I will be getting a membership at a range and bassicly storing my firearms there?

The videos I saw of the cleaning have them soak the parts in mineral baths? Even on cabelas site it says it will need thoroughly cleaning.

Is there a site I could buy one which is already clean? Also anything else I should look for before buying one of these?

it's not that easy to do at the range. What I will do is fill a spray bottle with mineral spirit, spray on every parts and mop it dry, followed by a mop of clp or light gun oil.

It's the best way for you to learn about your rifle so you shouldn't skip it

Yea I think that's my biggest issue before buying I don't where I would clean it. I live in a pretty busy area and people don't like guns in my house anyway. I don't want people freaking out that I'm taking apart and cleaning a gun. So i think it would be better at the range. I think I'll try calling them in the morning and ask. Find a bucket. Disassemble the gun in your room then dump every parts except the barrel in there. Take the bucket to your backyard, or anywhere with good ventilation, clean them with mineral spirit. There is no cosmline in your barrel, I assume, so you can wipe excessive grease out side of your barrel and clean the barrel in your room.

Make sure firepin is moving after the cleaning.

The cleaning is not that hard, and a good opportunity to learn how it comes apart! I soaked all of my parts in gasoline which dissolved all the cosmoline, then wiped it all down with gun oil. You should clean and store it at home.

My Russian one is rough, but it hits metal plates Free hand at 100 meters no problem.  That's good enough for me with iron sights

I bought a Chinese one from Cabela's and could reliably hit dead center at 100yds if I took my time so yes.

Make sure the barrel rifling is good and you cleaned and put everything tightly back together after cleaning.

Only downside is they are easy to accidentally drop over a deep lake like I did with mine.
