Hey y’all I’m a 17 year old from the Maritimes and a novice firearms enthusiast. Im hoping to start collecting gun in a few years. I was wondering if y’all could recommend any good affordable shotguns and handguns ( yes I know about the freeze but I being optimistic and hoping it will be over by the time I can start collecting). Thanks in advance.

Well my Hand guard broke under 300 rounds albeit it broke to 3inch slugs. It’s a good shotgun but I will always compare it to the m4 and unfortunately the breakage and some cycling issues I had with 3inch shells has made me sour on the prospect. Dm me if you want to know more.

Unfortunately the only reason why I’d buy a semi shotgun is for tactical/competition reasons. Not hunting

Firstly, when you do eventually apply for your PAL/RPAL dont state its for collection purposes unless you wanna write a college level paper to justify it lol.

Second, what kind of collection are you thinking? Milsurps, BP, modern, historically significant, a bit of everything?

For a bit of everything I would suggest something by pedersoli for BP (most of thier guns are accurate repros of old designs), an SKS for that surplus semi in an affordable caliber, modern .223/5.56 can be really anything that doesnt have kodiak defense stamped on it, bolt actions can be either modern or surplus most calibers are easy to find but cost varies and for way down the road at least one revolver and one pistol of any design.

These are just the most basic of suggestions and 99.8% of the time there is no wrong choice.

Join a range, go observe

Our range has a juniors program, no license required, no money required first three visits. Your area may have something similar.

The 180 series tend to break themselves with a degree of regularity. The 181 (according to the 10K round report in the sub) seems to be a step in the right direction though its still not where it should be.

If youre just buying to collect look at antique handguns.

You dont even need a PAL to buy antiques.
