Noob question! I'm new to firearms, I know this is going to be a dumb question but..

Looking at buying a X95 Tavor and had a quick question regarding the caliber.

I see X95's in 223, 223/556. I'm looking to shoot 556, I know 223/556 are the same for the most part. But I heard you can safely shoot 223 ammo in a rifle chambered in 556, but not the other way around in shooting 556 in a 223 chambered rifle? Does it matter? I heard people say it should be fine. Something about X95 is different when it comes to that? I just want to confirm before I drop the amount it costs for a Tavor.

Easiest way to tell is to make sure the barrel or the gun has 5.56 on it. That means it was built and tested for the higher pressures that a 5.56 creates. As long as the barrel is 5.56 rated you can safely shoot both rounds.

The difference is the freebore and the method of pressure testing.

Rule of thumb is if the rifle is chambered in 5.56, you can shoot both 5.56 and .223. If it's chambered in .223, you should only shoot .223. Anecdotally, shooting .223 out of a 5.56 chamber can potentially be less accurate, which is why .223 Wylde is a thing.

X95 is chambered in 5.56. You'll be fine with either 5.56 or .223. I have one and shoot both regularly.
