Is Corrosive 7.62x39 worth the trouble?

I will buy a Chinese SKS (chrome lined) in the near future.

I don't plan on hunting with it and won't be able to bring it to the range that often.

With that in mind, I like to stockpile (prepping), so cheap surplus ammo sounds great.

But I'm also worried about ruining my gun if I don't clean it properly.

Is corrosive surplus ammo worth it, or should I look into modern alternatives?

I don't care too much about pricing, as long as it's somewhat reasonable.

A) it's fine if you put in some effort to clean or spray your gun after use. It's not much of a hardship, especially if you only use it occasionally.

B) as for prepping surplus is better because it often comes already sealed in a tin and cheaper means you can have more money for other stuff. The hardship of cleaning your gun after use would be insignificant to the hardships you would encounter in any event where you need to shoot things to survive.

Well that convinced me lol. 30 cents per shot does sound like a dream in this economy.

I field-strip my guns at least once a week, just for fun, so I guess cleaning my SKS wouldn't be that different.

Would hot water be enough to wash away corrosive salts, or should I stock up on some more windex/hoppe's?

Yep hot water and soap is common, then oil after dry.

Personally I prefer hopes then spray cpl (or oil). I don't like the idea of getting water on metal. And leaving it out to dry doesn't work for me.

Yeah I don't mind spending more on hoppes and gun oil. Soap and water just sounds like a bad idea to me.

I suppose the price is surplus could have gone up since I last looked, that was a while ago. And I would have bought it on sale too.

Would u recommend buying surplus with or without stripper clips? I have these options:

A: Buy local surplus ammo, cheaper price per cartridge, no clips

B: Buy online, more expensive price per cartridge, one clip for every 10 rds, $30 shipping fee

You can buy stripper clips seperate (maybe on eBay). Once I got 5 or 10 or so I didn't even entertain the idea of paying more for ammo on clips.

What's the cost per round (with shipping/tax in) of each? How many rounds of each?

I would most likely buy not on strippers and then either make due with the 2 or 3 that came with it or buy more seperate.

I'd save ~20c per round if I bought them without clips. I have seen online listings for clips, so I'll probably buy them separately in the future.
