SECU Meeting next Tuesday to discuss the removal of G-46 and G-4, and will likely attempt to reintroduce them.

Edit: I do understand the reason the amendments were removed but the Liberals stated that they will either reintroduce them or make them their own bill after "getting it right"

Don't they have to do this? Before they were withdrawn they had motions in front of them to schedule extra meetings and travel. But when the LPC withdrew those amended, it got changed to 4 meetings with no travel to look at this clusterfuck.

I am still not convinced they would reintroduce them. Part of their "we will fix it" shtick is that they will do more consultations (as opposed to the literal 0 consultations they did before). I think this is an attempt to see if they can iron out how they want to do this before they introduce it in a new bill.

Yes, but Trudeau has made some vague promises to anti-gun groups who have, I'm sure, absolutely blasted the Liberal Party with their massive disappointment that losing those amendments brought. C-21 is important but they need that evergreen definition to really bring it home and pick up a w, and they would get that in spades if it meant that semi-autos were completely banned. That would solidify their already baffling support in GTA.

Agreed, if they aren't reintroduced they will become their own standalone bill. The Liberals got struck down because it went beyond the scope of the bill but only an election will stop C-21 or further legislation, and they'll likely abandon the "No REAL hunter" narrative and double down on bans because the Liberals have backed themselves into a corner and can't afford not to finish what they started. Weed legalization/Gun control will be Justin's legacy.

2025 seems like it's decades away though, and no way the NDP pull support or let an election be called unless Trudeau finds his feet again and surge in the polls.

Is there a decent chance that if in the worst-case scenario they introduce a semi auto ban (either in this bill or another), the Conservatives will actually keep to their word and repeal it next time they have a majority? Or are they the type that will talk like that but never actually do anything when the time comes?

They aren't going to introduce a semi auto ban. They admitted that the "reach was too broad" on the old amendments, so whatever they come out with next will be more limited in scope. Not even the original amendments were a full semi auto ban.

Eventually, assuming an election doesn't take them down first. But I'd be shocked if they were too stupid to learn their lesson, and tried again with something just as bad.
