There are degrees to everything. Nothing in life is ever an absolute, and things change. People can be left leaning, but even in this tumultuous time, alliances can change. The effects of inflation, healthcare and a housing crisis are affecting everyone regardless of political leanings. When you’re getting beat down, any change is going to seem good.
There are still plenty of “urbanites” that are right leaning, and conservatism is picking up steam with younger people apparently. Things in life change all the time, and rarely do things fall into neat little categories.
I’d be more worried if the conservatives had Green Party numbers. But they aren’t realistically that far off from the liberals.
There’s reason behind the saying: “Canada doesn’t vote parties in, it votes parties out”.
While nothing is ever guaranteed, I think it’s very realistic that the conservatives might win government. Majority territory? That remains to be seen but crazier things have happened.
In regards to codifying firearms ownership so it never gets touched again, that’s a pipe dream but not because it would offend urbanites. It’s because of how our legislative system works. Government cannot tie the hands of future parliaments when it comes to prescribing legislation. And that’s the unfortunate reality.
I honestly think the liberals secretly don’t want guns to completely disappear because it would be like throwing out all the fire extinguishers in their house made of newspaper. They need something divisive to fall back on when they need a shakedown and the gun debate worked very well to distract people when it was discovered that 12 MP’s received funding from China. It took the media spotlight right off of Justin when he was going through that Emergencies act inquiry. Politicians don’t really care about anything other than image and re-election. That’s it.
We’re the props in a twisted play.
There are going to be ups and downs. AR’s have been banned, unbanned, and banned again.
We’re not safe, no. The honest to god best advice I can give you is to breathe, spread our gospel and fight back. The long-gun registry got repealed which would have been a great tool to have for a confinscation. That was a massive W for gun owners.
If it happened once, it can happen again.
