Any opinions on the GSG 1911?

I'm looking for an affordable handgun for casual shooting. I like the look of the GSG 1911 and I can get one for $470 at a local place. I won't be locking in my decision for a little while, but I thought I'd get some opinions now.

On a related note, how would you compare it to a Beretta 92 or a Px4 Storm? Those are the other ones that stand out to me, since I happen to have a couple of magazines that would fit those.

personal opinion only

a pistol running 22LR that is designed to look like another pistol will never shoot as nicely or as accurately as one that was designed solely for 22LR and simple blowback like the Browning Buckmark, S&W Victory, Ruger Standard

my wife has a Walther PPQ in 22LR and while fun, it is nowhere near as clean and accurate as my Buckmark at the same $500 - $600 price range

this plus i prefer a heavy pistol, i have an all-steel norinco 9mm (well, rubber grips and a fibre optic front sight but mostly steel)

My GSG 1911 is doing pretty well with a high round count although the slide catch is peening some (rack it back to release the slide instead).

If I were to do it again I would have gone for a used Ruger Single-Six. I just get a kick out of running manual actions like bolts and levers.

for our new listeners, a Ruger Single Six is a revolver, and although i prefer mid 20th century and newer autoloaders i am awaiting my first revolver to be approved

No curse intended nor offered. My range just opened up again, and things are looking up in BC and Canada. But do what you will. Have a great weekend. Not a curse either.

Sounds expensive look at all the variants from Sig and GSG. They usually sell around $330-360. As for the pistol they are great fun. I have mine cycling federal 36gr CPHP makes for affordable fun. I did polish off the overspray inside of the slide to be able to use a low weight bullet.

I have 2 one of them with over 100k rounds through it, mine cycle pretty much everything with a failures here and there when it gets really dirty. I do however feed it the absolute cheapest ammo I can find it takes alot longer to start getting failures with decent ammo

Yeah wore out a dozen mags, 2 slides and a barrel replaced under warranty as well as changed out all the small parts probably 4 times.

You can pick them up cheaper used on CGN. I have one. Other than being picky on ammo and liking to be fairly well oiled, it's a great gun. Tack driver. I shoot 1911s in IPSC and it's a great training aid. Highly recommend, they're solid.

Mine's pretty worn in at this point. It will cycle pretty much anything, but is most accurate with HV mini mags or Aguila HV. Most of my stuff likes the Aguila, I just bought like 3500 rounds of it on sale.

Go for another brand. My gsg 1911 warped after 1000 rounds (cleaned after every range session). Warp was so bad I couldn’t remove the barrel from the housing and it would spray powder out of the action when fired. I sent it to blueline for warranty repairs which took 8 months and came back with a claim of brass build up, which is crap.

You would be better of with a sig at a similar price.

Echoing Beretta erratas opinion. If you want a .22lr to look like something else you recognize that you are giving up a little reliability for the look.

I have a GSG 1911 and it runs fine. I think it's perfectly adequate as a cheapish .22lr pistol.

Also look around because GSG 1911's or Sig 1911-22's can be had brand new closer to $430 or less.

I have mixed feelings about mine . I’m wishing i would have saved up a bit more and got a Ruger hunter or competition

I love mine, make sure you shoot high velocity ammo. I have had very few failures even with shitty bulk ammo. It loves Remington golden bullets.

Don’t shoot standard velocity through it. Won’t work the action properly.
