Please dont make fun of me... the extent of my fire arms training/experience is my military service. I did not deploy and only served 4 years so no cool stories. Wasn't infantry and honestly the extent of fire arms experience was the weapons safety training, exercises, and range days. So aside from using a .22 once when I was a teenager... I have no idea. The reason I'm getting one is for hunting. Our family has decided to take up hunting. Fire arm safety isn't a concern (I have confidence in my ability to operate/store/transport a fire arm safely and will be doing my hunter aafety exam shortly. Already passed the course.) the issue is not being familiar with civilian models.

I would want something in a similar style to what I'm accustomed to using. So pistol grip, bolt action where I can easily inspect the bore from the non-business end. Do hunting rifles even have the option to add a pistol grip? Can one even hunt with that type of fire arm or is it specifically for sport shooting?

I do plan on going into a cabella's and talking with them to see about my options but figured since I'll be getting my PAL it would be a good idea to know what I'd even be looking for.

How is the recoil? I'm pretty small but could handle a C7 just fine...

Oh I never even thought of that. I always figured the rounds we used would be more than enough given the purpose of them. But yeah I suppose game is far more difficult to uuuhhhhh... you get the idea.

There are definitely rifles that fit your criteria, though afaik they are mostly target rifles so they will be heavier and not so great for bringing into the bush.

I would suggest maybe looking at a thumbhole stock. It’s not a pistol grip per say but it’s closer than a standard hunting rifle. Kind of a middle ground without going for a full heavy chassis.

There are some companies that make super light carbon fibre chassis but they are incredibly expensive.

Well given the amount of time I've spent out dragging my rifle around on nav exercises and the sheer amount of forced marches through wilderness and fields I'm not overly concerned about traipsing around the woods with it lol. If it feels similar than carrying it won't be an issue. I'd likely sling it similarly to how I would have worn my old rifle too which makes for easier carry and muzzle control.

I just finished my provincial hunting course lol. They did not include that. It was all based around safety. So it was only help in the manner of center vs rim fire shotgun vs rifle and bow types in terms of hunting weapons. I'm assuming they have the nuts and bolts in the hunting regs they publish every season with the dates, draws, tag prices and zones. They do it for fishing. Let you know which lakes you can bait fish and which you want. What the limits are and what not.
