Fix my gun / Modding Holy failure to extract

Post image

First time out on the M3500 Waterfowl.

Night before I cleaned and lube it to remove that thick lubricant factory puts on. Heard it was giving people a headache.

First box of clay shells went by with no issues. Things fell apart after 1 shot of 3.5inch. Failed to extract that one and after that it was 50 50 if it would fail to extract or eject. With a few working properly for the 2nd shell and the fail for the 3rd. Tried to feed a shell without extracting the shot one too sometimes. A general headache.

Benelli M2 extractor and spring have been ordered. Will do another cleaning to see how it goes next time.

Anybody here with similar issues ?

What kind of failure to extract are you seeing? Was the extractor slipping off the rim of the shell or tearing a chunk out of it?

My guess is slipping. It works fine when pulled back manually. It wouldn't extract and eject after firing.

Yeah, if it’s slipping off the rim that benelli extractor will likely sold the issue, good luck and update once you’ve done the upgrade

I cant figure out why it happened after the first 3.5inch shell, it was running flawlessly prior

My m3500 is extremely ammo picky. Runs great with some ammo, won’t extract with others. I got a good deal on several flats of Challenger target load, and the extractor would not grip the casing.

It was so bad I had to buy a SxS to use up that Challenger ammo.

Is this recent? Bought some recent Challenger target loads since they swapped to a translucent hull and, not sure yet if it's just my Chiappa 1887 hating it as I haven't tried it in anything else yet, but it was sticking in the chamber like absolute crazy, I could extract them but only with a lot of force forward on the lever. Didn't have that trouble with any other shells I tried that day including a box of last year's Challenger #4 steel hunting rounds, and it's making me wonder if there's a bigger change in them at work.

Yes it the blue translucent shells. I gave it a good cleaning and will change the extractor/spring set before shooting it again
