That 1:12tw barrel and PMC Xtac is the weak point, tbh. There’s only so much training value to be had from a system that will struggle to shoot 1moa. If you reload I’d look into some 55gr match bullets but Ideally I’d rebarrel with a 1:7tw or so.

Had it been me, I would’ve spent less on chassis (prob an MDT XRS) and more on the barreled action and started with something 1:8/9 (believe you can get factory Tikkas with a faster twist). 1:9 can at least handle 68/69s.

I say this as a guy who’s 1st PRS practice rig (back in 2018?) was a 1:12 .223 and who has since burnt out 4 or so 1:7 or 7.5 .223 barrels shooting 75s.

Yeah totally. The best case would be a second barrel for my main gun, but I didnt want to reload. And I wanted cheap ammo for this. All in this cost me under 2200. So I cant really complain. On a large 20round sample it shot 1.17 MOA. And thatll be good enough for the position building practice and hitting out to 500m I seek.

Yeah, 1.2 moa is better than I would’ve expected, especially over a large sample size. You’ll prob struggle a bit on smaller targets in the wind at 500 but oh well. If you plan on a high round count, I’d def suggest a basic reloading setup. You’ll break even pretty quick. I’m pretty sure my cost for 75gr reloads is less than what Xtac costs.

Yeah definitely. According to Litz top gun theory it should be doing much better. But oh well.

Damn! Whats your 75gr load data?

Im averaging around .50cpr for The Xtac at LGS here in AB.

Hornady 75gr BTHP, 23.9gr N150, whatever SRP I have on hand (usually 450s or BR4s) in range pickup brass sorted by headstamp (federal now, PMC before, IVI next). Seated at 2.250” so it’ll fit in an AR mag (I like same ammo in bolt gun and carbine), runs about 2900 in a 26” 1:7, 2750ish in 17.5-20” carbines. You can load much hotter and seat less deep if just running in a bolt gun. Shoots 1/2moa in bolt gun (10rnds) and 1moa (10rnds)in precision gas gus, 1.5moa in rack grade.
